‘Red alert!’ – Klinsmann calls for ‘complete rethink’ to German football Jurgen Klinsmann says Germany must be on "red alert" to deal with the country's decline in world football, suggesting they look to England for inspiration to fix it. It has been six years since a German team won the Champions League and no Bundesliga teams are left in this season's edition after Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund and Schalke were knocked out at the last-16 stage by English opposition. The clubs' upset comes less than a year after Germany suffered a humiliating group stage exit from the World Cup, and former Die Mannschaft star and manager Klinsmann says a "complete rethink" is needed to address the issues plaguing their game. "We have talked about the results in European club competitions for two or three years, but now everything has become even worse," the former Bayern and Tottenham player told Bild am Sonntag. "The national team's results have been fatal recently. There is a red alert! "A feeling of arrogance has crept into the German national team in 2014. We leaned back because we were the best." While German clubs are struggling to compete, English football has been rejuvenated in recent years. Premier League sides make up half of those competing in the quarter-finals of the Champions League this term, while the national team has been boosted by the emergence of a new generation of talented players. With players like current Bundesliga stars Jadon Sancho and Reiss Nelson coming through, the Three Lions are expected to have a bright long-term future, too. And Klinsmann feels the German Football Association (DFB) must learn lessons from its English counterpart if they are to catch up. "They first questioned everything, then looked outside the box, and then they change happened very quickly. The clubs build competitions for their youth teams." According to Klinsmann, the way Germany develops young players also needs to be reconsidered, while he also pushed for a change to the 50+1 rule that ensures clubs are majority-owned by supporters. "We always think: 'the main thing [for a player] is that he can kick, everything else is unimportant'. No, it is not! Nutrition, sleep, training - all this is important. "Of course there are positive examples in the Bundesliga too, I think of Hertha Berlin, Hoffenheim or RB Leipzig." He added: "I understand the 50+1 rule, it stems from the old club idea, but you can only get money from investors if they are allowed to have a say in the club, which is why the rule is a disadvantage for the Bundesliga on the international stage." https://www.sportingnews.com/ca/soc...-to-german-football/2ein1j564n2e1kx7iop5f2zis
Mainz have lost 6 of their last 7 matches. Including some pretty some ugly results: 0-6 to Bayern today, 0-3 to Wolfsburg, 1-5 to Leverkusen, 0-3 to Augsburg
it's good for them that they are unlikely to be relegated but yeah they've been bad. I've always said one of Mainz's issue is that they don't play any wingers....Sometimes they do but a lot of other times they don't. How does one expect to win without Wingers? And their attack is lacking too. it's time to give 99-Gurleyen a call up.
Seems like Mainz overachieved a bit to begin the season. Which is why they're still fairly comfortable in mid table. I'm actually happy that Mainz have slipped lately in the standings. They've shown before that they're not a reliable BL representative to have feature in the Europa league whenever they make it or in qualifiers
usually bring up 2BL here and there, it still has relevance since 2-3 teams get promotion every year to 1BL and players who emerge there can easily end up in 1BL. we also bring up the topic of height of strikers. 1st time I realize that Dynamo Dresden's Czech striker 00-Vasil Kusej is only 1.68m that's very short. Kid happens to have a pro contract signed until 2022 too. He's seen as their jewel player and has played friendlies with 1st team will be curious to see how he does with his height, potentially towards end of season and the next.
In 2BL looks like Holstein Kiel have been using the Austrian, Mathias Honsak as a striker in the last couple match days in which he's scored in both. Originally a winger but has played in different positions. For the Ösi U21 NT he's also one of their top scorers. Wonder if he'll end up signing with a club in Germany or returns to Salzburg in the summer.
#Schalke's turnover is expected to break the €300 million mark for the first time in the club's history. #s04 [kicker]— German Football Daily (@GERFootDaily) March 18, 2019
lol FC Bayern bosses question whether Niko Kovač is the right coach to lead the upcoming upheaval or is just a one season temporary solution. His tactics and the team's showing against Liverpool fueled the doubts over the coach [Kicker] pic.twitter.com/8gxLIsqRPw— Bayern & Germany (@iMiaSanMia) March 18, 2019
what a joke Heidel was between his overspending and this..... According to the former Schalker Tomasz #Hajto, Krzysztof #Piatek was recommended to Heidel in 2017: “He didn't actually react. Later I learned that #Schalke did not watch Piatek once. I don't know why Heidel didn't watch Piatek once. The flights to Krakow aren't that expensive.“— German Football Daily (@GERFootDaily) March 18, 2019

Dietmar Hamann with criticism on the Bundesliga after this season's display in Europe. He feels that Bayern needs the presence of someone like Van Dijk. Clubs have also misjudged and missed out on talents like Sadio Mane who was once at RB Salzburg and Mo Salah at Basel. http://www.kicker.de/news/fussball/...van-dijk-zu-finden-waere-bayerns-auftrag.html

should make @feyenoordsoccerfan happy another Dutch coach in 1BL. NEW HEAD COACH ❗️We are thrilled to confirm that Alfred #Schreuder will be our new head coach! I do wonder a guy involved in Eredivisie and ex Hoff assistant coach. Wonder if D.Otto/Amade/Hack etc will get chances?
🚨 Bayern's offer of around €80m for Nicolas Pépé has been accepted by Lille. Only a few details are still being finalized [@beinsports_FR] pic.twitter.com/CqYUrU3n2E— Bayern & Germany (@iMiaSanMia) March 19, 2019 and this is why Bayern Academy players will always struggle to breakthrough when the clubs spends fortunes on players in same positions. Likely Academy players will have to get a top flight loan or buyback clause. Bayern II getting promoted to 3rd Liga will only help players there. also at least Pepe isn't a Frenchie, he's a dual French-Ivory Coast player but plays for Ivory Coast NT.
