Per Lalas' tweet: alexilalas22 Edson Buddle on trial at Birmingham City. Would be a big loss for Galaxy. What's he worth? Rather interesting, I think. Don't know much about Birmingham's squad, but I do think Buddle could hack it in the lower reaches of the Premiership.
Re: Buddle on Trial at Birmingham City Good find. Will rep you when I "spread it around" I think Buddle would do just fine in a lower to middle tier prem side...if Eddie Johnson can cut it, so can he
Re: Buddle on Trial at Birmingham City The Brummies, on the surface, can pay quite a bit. E-Bud is a free agent with no transfer fees to be remitted. And the club he is trialing with is desperately short of forwards. And Alex McLeish does play a lot of long ball.
Re: Buddle on Trial at Birmingham City Nice! good luck buddle I wonder if Wondolowski is planing to trial somewhere in europe he said it was his dream to play there right?
Re: Buddle on Trial at Birmingham City I had to make a calculation between being the one to break this story on this forum, or spending time thinking of a clever thread title. I'm not quick enough to do both. Rhymes with "puddle, huddle, cuddle....." ...nope - nothing coming.
Re: Buddle on Trial at Birmingham City Birmingham tried bringing in some strikers in the summer, but none of them are real quality. I think Buddle definitely wouldn't look out of place staring for Birmingham, but Fulham would really give him an opportunity to shine if they were interested...
Re: Buddle on Trial at Birmingham City his dad is from Jamaica right? do Jamaicans get any special treatment to England?
Re: Buddle on Trial at Birmingham City He might get the 6-month trial off his Jamaican roots but the guy played in the WC for the team that tied England. Come on, people. Yanks flock to Birmingham.
Re: Buddle on Trial at Birmingham City I believe that Cameron Jerome and Nikola Zigic are the only two strikers currently at Birmingham who have started any league games this season. Earlier in the season, Birmingham were usually opting for one striker formations and choosing between the two. Within the past month or so, they've been pairing the two strikers together up top more often.
Re: Buddle on Trial at Birmingham City If Buddle can impress I think it could be a win-win situation for both. Birmingham is desperate for some striking options and he would probably earn minutes ASAP. BC's current crop don't necessarily strike fear into their opponents. Phillips is 37 and finally showing age, McFadden and Jermone are up and down and Zigic, in my eues, hasn't impressed. Buddle could potentially be a good fit hence the trial. BC has a pretty decent midfield so maybe a player, like Buddle, who is a good finisher, could be of service.
Re: Buddle on Trial at Birmingham City Well, some are next door with Villa. And some are down the road with Bolton. Jerome is a terrific athlete with a crappy touch (a step up from Robbie Findley ... but a small step at that) and Zigic plays as if he was a 5'9" small forward most of the time. E-Bud can at least throw his body around.
Re: Buddle on Trial at Birmingham City NO! This is a lose lose for me. I am a Galaxy fan and Aston Villa fan. I hate birmingham and I dont want to see any player I like on that team. I just cannot support someone who is on villa's rivals. Also, as a Galaxy fan, we desperately need buddle. There is not one good back up striker on our team. Buddle stay with LA!
Re: Buddle on Trial at Birmingham City Huddle around the fire as I regale you with stories of Buddle's quest across the puddle.
Re: Buddle on Trial at Birmingham City O god don't get me started here! If buddle leaves LA it would be a huge blow for us. Ronaldinho would be terrible in a galaxy uniform. The galaxy play as a team, dinho does not. If buddle does get sign by Birmingham, I imagine he will turn out to be a Kenwyne Jones type of striker.
Re: Buddle on Trial at Birmingham City I always thought Buddle had the muscle to do well for a rough-and-tumble EPL side. I would totally endorse a move. Imagine if LA lose Donovan and Buddle...Wouldn't that be incredible? I don't see both happening. I expect one of them to be loaned out and the other moving permanently.
Re: Buddle on Trial at Birmingham City Damn you WP... hopefully his appearance (albeit small) in the WC will give Birmingham leverage if they end up interested in him.
Re: Buddle on Trial at Birmingham City Buddle = Mcbride 2.0... as a Galaxy fan I've enjoyed his exploits at the HDC over the past few years but I think it's time he gets a real opportunity to show his class.
Re: Buddle on Trial at Birmingham City I think Buddle can hack it in the BPL. The only downside is that he's already 29 years old. He doesn't have too many seasons of his prime left. If he doesn't hit the ground running for Birmingham, he most likely won't get another chance. I don't follow MLS very closely. It looks like Buddle had some good seasons with Columbus 5+ years ago. Does anyone know why he didn't get a shot in Europe when he was younger?
