All games are in the books, and the selections will be made tomorrow.

The only team above the cut line that missed was Central Arkansas, which is not a surprise. But the team that replaced them is...California, with an RPI of 49.

Cal was 8-6-3 overall, and 4-4-2 in the 3rd-ranked conference. They were 3-2 vs. NCAA Tournament teams with RPI's of 75 or better, but lost to Denver (and also lost to non-tourney team San Diego State). Overall SOS was a mediocre 81.

Why is it not a surprise?

...and there are also two other Pac-12 teams in the bracket.

Go back to the top of the thread and look at Central Arkansas's profile. It does not compare to the other teams listed. UCA defeated just one team (Coastal Carolina) in the top 75 that made the NCAA Tournament.

RPI is not the only criteria. I tried to give all of the same information that was available to the Committee.

Digging deeper into Cal, the Committee obviously though highly of the Bears' road wins at Washington, Stanford and UCSB.

Thanks Dan. I previously read your first post. However, I did think that being undefeated would be also a serious consideration point.

I'm talking about Central Arkansas, not Missouri State.

OOps_ it's me who mixed up my question about CA and in the other thread my question about Missouri State. Dan answered accurately….

    No they didn't.

They finished the season with a loss and scoreless tie Milwaukee. That's 119. Milwaukee. If you can't beat the 119th team in the country in 2 games, you don't really get to say you got screwed.

Further, they played a really soft schedule, with only two games against teams ranked higher than 68 and they went 1-2 against the teams from the power conferences, none of which made the NCAA Tournament themselves (DePaul, Ohio State, Northwestern).

Nothing about their resume suggests a team that deserved an at-large bid.

Cal moving up is baffling until you figure it was done for geographic reasons to assure two West Coast teams would play each other and then get to play another western team after that.

Much easier for the NCAA to pair UCSB up with Cal than Central Arkansas or what not.

Maybe San Diego was in the mix, then, since the Toreros had a better RPI at 44. USD's SOS was 113, and was 1-2-1 vs. the top 25. Cal does have a better resume than San Diego; ergo, pick Cal.

Field (as always) biased against west coast. Oh well. Counting on Huskies to make a deep run.

Other than USD, which west coast team do you think should have gotten in?

USD didn't finish the season well and had a bad loss to Gonzaga to boot. No real high quality wins and an average conference record. Per what Gaucho Dan has posted as NCAA criterion USD probably didn't deserve inclusion. Fullerton of the western teams probably was the team that had the biggest gripe but even there they did not finish the season very well.
