The paperwork for a one time switch takes a few weeks. Unlikely it could be done in time for the Bosnia game. All the recent news about Jona is nothing more than various news outlets regurgitating the same story with different headlines with the same misinformation. The kid was invited to a couple U20 NT camps which he declined. He has never been invited to join the senior NT. That’s not the way this coaching staff, let alone the FMF, works. If they convince him to play for Mexico, it’s going to be with the 2020 Olympics in mind because I don’t see him making the 2018 WC roster, regardless of his quality or rapid ascension.
All of this talk about this kid. In my eyes I would rather he choose the team he actually wants to play for, the one he feels connected to. If that's the US, fine. If it's Mexico, get in line and earn a spot. He shouldn't need convincing. The door is open if he wants to join, but let him choose and live with that choice.
Tell that to the half-rate Argies and Brazilians we've suited up throughout the years... I don't see how this duse (who is actually Mexican) gets more hate than Guille Franco or Leandro Augusto or any of these other scrubs and mercenaries we've let wear the Green...
Mas respeto a my boy Leandro. Although to be fair, he just wasn't NT material, as much as Sven or I wanted him to be. But anywho, Gonzalez would be a good option for us, but he's not worth any begging.
No one is begging him tho. He has had a decent run at Rayados for an 18 year old and no one would think twice if he was called to a friendly were it not for the fact he is slated to play for the US...
Oh yeah, I know. We're on the same team here, carnal. It's just in case Osorio or whoever else has that in mind in the near future.
Supposedly he chose the good guys and will be called up against Bosnia. https://www.univision.com/deportes/...e-decidio-y-jugara-para-la-seleccion-mexicana
You think Osorio and Dennis convinced him to switch using the 2020 Olympics as bait? He's going to the world cup, even if he just sits on the bench. Count on it.
I can confirm @UnivisionSports report that Monterrey MF Jonathan Gonzalez, 18, will seek 1-time switch from U.S. to Mexico. Huge setback for #usmnt. Federation negligence.— Steven Goff (@SoccerInsider) January 8, 2018
Osorio has a specific type of player that he likes at dm (one of those requirements being height, among other things). Besides, Osorio has officially stated that he will use him higher up in the field
Are are we okay with most of our European players aren't getting starting minutes leading up to this summer?
