    For the record, I remember 2004, 2005 and 2006.

And RAL had us playing with 9 defensive-minded players.

    No mamen.

Yes, we rose to the level of play in 2005 against Argentina and Germany, and Argentina in 2006.

But the rest of the games?

    Double no mamen.

In 2004, we famously beat Argentina for the first time in official competition and we did so with a Morales free-kick where the rest of the game we bunkered and held on for dear life.

In Greece, we played like absolute shit when RAL guaranteed a medal or he'd quit. 3 and out.

In the Confederaciones, we looked like super shit until we played Argentina and Germany, which, you know, is only possible because it's a freakin' 8 team tournament where advancing to the 2nd round secures you a 4th place finish and 2 matches, to boot.

And the 2nd of the Gold Cups RAL coached? You guys forget we won the 2003 one at home by staying at home, where other countries played in the US. But in 2005? No one talks about the ridiculous ass showing we had against South Africa.

And, finally, el mundial de Alemania.

We looked like total donkey dick against Portugal and Angola, and only felt optimistic because of the Iran match.

And then the Guardado Argentina match. Capitan Marquez. Crespo.

    Maxi.

I said I wouldn't care about the "proceso" and just wanted it to end. But I ended up crying after Maxi's goal, anyway.

    Grown ass man crying.

@metalmaster one night told me I'd grow up and learn to not care as much about la seleccion.

And I thank him because I have learned to lighten up.

But dammit if these bastards don't piss me the f.u.c.k. off.

After you reach a certain age you realize that Mexico are a decent team that occasionally plays very well. That's just who we are. We've never done anything of note at global stage. We beat the Croatias and Uruguays of the world but seldom beat the next tier teams. Until that changes there is really no reason to believe we'll beat the big teams. None. I feel like we're close right now though and that's pretty exciting.

The 2005 and 2011 youth cups, as well as the u20 in Colombia and London 2012 made me believe.

    I want to believe.

And then we crap all over ourselves against Holland in the final minutes.

That is our destiny for now.

Also that Martin del Palacio is the only guy that remembers that Germany went down 10 men AND was playing with an iffy team already in that competition. It was a great result and play but I don't get why people talk about it as masterful compared to other games in that same competition (or something like the Portugal game this time).

    Good for him

Reminds me of how Gallito Vazquez came into prominence

Imagine how many players have fallen through the cracks because of shit scouting and majority of clubs preferring shit foreign players

How's that possible with that concacaf nations league BS about to take place? They virtually wrote any non-concacaf teams off.

Europe is the one who started the nations league BS.

Even if Concacaf doesn't implement it, UEFA is.

So unless you plan to play all your friendlies against CONMEBOL teams and the handful of African/Asian teams that are decent it makes no difference now.

Quiza solamente beneficia a los dueños?

    Thats BS

The players are complicit in this also. There is a reason why the players haven't been able to form a union for decades. They are overpaid and they know it, especially the average player.

The Palmera Rivas, Joel Huiqui's of LIGAMX earn much more money in Mexico than what they are really worth. Everyone knows this, and to start demanding more from the owners means the owners can retaliate by paying players what they are really worth. The average player doesn't want that...
