It's hard to make calls like that given the speed of play, and I don't know if I would have given Pepe a yellow or red in the ref's place. What I would have done however, after watching Alves writhe in pain for so long, go off the field of play, and then pop right back up, is give him a yellow.

In the same way a forward can fall with contact without it being a foul or dive, and therefore not deserve a card, I think a player who does get fouled but still goes through theatrics on the ground ought to get his own card.

he went in hard and position to stomp, so that in itself deserves atleast a yellow and possibly a straight red, based on the potential injury for even going in that way. see that libertadores match where it was the same play but guy broke his leg.

crying is b1atch like, but the entry was potentially dangerous.
