Apparently I'm the only person who give a Sh!te about Dj!te!! Jeez, yet-to-be established players in Israel and Finland are apparently more interesting than our guy in the vaunted A-League.

Bruce looked dangerous in the last A-League match (Melbourne?), and tonight he scored in the 2-2 draw vs. the hated Wellington Phoenix. Haven't seen any highlights, but it should be on sports highlights here tomorrow night--will let you know. The article below suggests it was a well-taken goal:

(Side Note: Very good buzz about the upcoming Beckham Galaxy visit so far--NZ needs this guy probably worse than the US does right now)

I believe it is Adelaide United FC. That was Bruce's first goal of the season. I'm adding it to the list. Please keep me updated.

    Bruce

Yes, about two seconds after I posted that I realized it was United.

    Well, tonight--

    TWO GOALS!!

    http://www.a-league.com.au/default.aspx?s=hal_newsdisplay&id=19505

Djite was the hero for the home side when he scored in the 88th minute, his diving header off a pin-point cross from Richie Alagich brushing Vukovic's outstretched hand before shaving the post and falling through.

As a matter of fact, after 6 rounds, BD LEADS the A-League Goal Scorer's list with 4 in the ole onion bag!!!!!

Not sure how that doesn't deserve more attention than people playing on some spare lower-tier Euro leagues.

Cap him!! According to his wikipedia page he could have the option of playing internationally one of 4 countries. Father is from the Ivory Coast, mother is from Togo, born in US and lives in Australia. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bruce_Djite
(I know he's a long way off from any of those, but that's pretty interesting)

I bet if he keeps putting them away at this pace it will garner some attention rather quickly.

Given that his name's Bruce, isn't it a foregone conclusion that he'll play for Australia? ;)

Djite has played for Australia youth teams and was apparently in the squad that played in the 2006 AFC Youth Championship, so I can't imagine him ever being a factor for the US program.

Hey thats what we've been saying to our National Team Manager! He's been good value for our Olympic side's qualifying route as well, so I think he's ours! ;)

That he was born in the US and has ancestry in two other countries is not in dispute. Neither is the fact that he would like to play for Australia.

We should probably focus on how he's doing at his club, since that's the crux of the YA forum...

...highlights are available for round 6 on the A-League multimedia page, and Bruce's header on the 2nd goal rocked!

They pronounce his name pretty close to "Jedi".

There are some Prem rumors for the guy ... although Bremen passed on him about a year ago.

Re: Bruce Djite at Adelaide FC

I was just watching the A-league highlights show on FSC and I saw the name Bruce Djite listed on the starting 11 for Adelaide. I was thinking to myself how the hell do I know this name, when I realized that it was from that thread on Bigsoccer that I never click on.

Alrighty, well they showed the didving header goal and it was pretty well taken, however the goalie probably should have done better. After the match they interviewed Bruce and he sounded pretty American. According to AverageWhiteMale Bruce has lived in Australia since he was 3, but he sounded more American than that to me. Just throwen that out there.

Can't wait for people to start jumping off a bridge over this...

Q: Bruce, you could have played for Togo or the Ivory Coast - or even the USA which is where you were born. Why did you choose to represent Australia and who's your role model as a striker? I was selected to play for Australia and I was not asked by any of the other countries to represent them.

doesn't Mike Enfield play in Australia? How is he doing? Shouldn't he be capped before this guy? Or not?

I think Enfield got hurt. It may have even been a season ending injury...I can't remember.

Apparently, Djite is actually a pretty good prospect, though Bundesliga club(s?) passed on him when he was on trial. He was probably never going to play for the US anyway and I think he came through the AIS program (Aussie Bradenton equivelent.)

Although we are getting off topic- yes- he did his knee a week or two ago, and is gone for the season.

To get it back on topic, Djite is also injured. He hurt his ankle against Perth in the last game.

I agree!! Can't pick any hint of an american accent what-so-ever.

I've heard a few Spanish clubs are interested in him?
