Funny how the same people trashing Arena for not integrating more younger players in the last 10 months of qualifying, with us starting dead last in the Hex, were ok with Klinsmann not integrating any youth in the ~30 months time he had this cycle.

EPB, Keaton Parks and Haji Wright would be other names in this group.

Half of these guys we didn't send there. They were raised there and got their formation in a different sporting culture. The other three, as best I can recollect, were never big US Soccer hopefuls ie. coming through the established national youth channels. The lack of development for these names isn't on US Soccer.

Or.....lambasted Klins for "losing" when he tried to integrate new and try out new and younger players, esp.at the Gold Cup right after the World Cup.

Who are you talking about? Here is that roster:

U.S. Roster By Position: Detailed Roster
GOALKEEPERS (3): Brad Guzan (Aston Villa/2007), Nick Rimando (Real Salt Lake/2011, 2013), William Yarbrough (Club Leon)
DEFENDERS (7): Ventura Alvarado (Club America), John Brooks (Hertha Berlin), Timmy Chandler (Eintracht Frankfurt), Brad Evans (Seattle Sounders FC/2009), Omar Gonzalez (LA Galaxy/2013), Fabian Johnson (Borussia Mönchengladbach), Tim Ream (Bolton Wanderers/2011)
MIDFIELDERS (9): Kyle Beckerman (Real Salt Lake/2009, 2013), Alejandro Bedoya (Nantes/2011, 2013), Michael Bradley (Toronto FC/2007, 2011), Brad Davis (Houston Dynamo/2005), Mix Diskerud (New York City FC/2013), Alfredo Morales (Ingolstadt), DeAndre Yedlin (Tottenham Hotspur), Gyasi Zardes (LA Galaxy), Graham Zusi (Sporting Kansas City)
FORWARDS (4): Jozy Altidore (Toronto FC/2011), Clint Dempsey (Seattle Sounders FC/2005, 2007, 2011), Aron Johannsson (AZ Alkmaar), Chris Wondolowski (San Jose Earthquakes/2011, 2013)

Not a lot of experimentation. Maybe Ventura Alvarado but he wasn't a complete unknown for the national team at that time either. Not like some of the young guys people are saying should be called into this do or die qualifier tonight.

JOB against Yedlin? I'd like to see that matchup. Of course JOB would get injured.

You don't have to be a "complete unknown" to qualify as experimentation. Very few players are complete unknowns.

But JK tried out and integrated quite a host of new or previously lightly used players over his tenure and was lambasted on here for doing so.

In your list alone the highlighted were not players that saw much time under the previous management and that roster leaves out many others like Bobby Wood, Jordan Morris, and even Nagbe that he did try that were not very integrated under Double B, or were new.

Of course, when this "integration" is bringing in a Green [new], a Wondolowski [previously lightly used], a Mix [previously lightly used], an injured Johansson [previously lightly used], over, say,a Landon Donovan & Benny Feilhaber....well, his WC tenure deserves a heaping ladling of lambasting.

Bruce, if he hopes to have any success at the World Cup, needs to integrate our best young talent, and some of those "previously lightly used players",into the team. And he can't do it half-assed. If a Wondo, for example, is in Russia, while a Dwyer is consigned to living la vida loca in big bad Mondo Disney, Bruce will have made a mess of it. If Howard [who is slowing down fast] is our default keeper in Russia, and there has been no serious attempt to integrate one or two of our younger keepers, then Bruce will have made a mess of it. For just two of many examples that come to mind.....
    ......
But none of this undoes the mess that Klinsmann made.

This post is pretty funny for another reason. Klinsmann didn’t give any young players chances...

    71m(5) - Matt Miazga (1995, 22)-[Vitesse]
    0m(2)- Cameron Carter Vickers (1997, 20)-[Tottenham]
    2435m(44) - DeAndre Yedlin (1993, 24)-[Newcastle United]
    284m(8)- Kellyn Acosta (1995, 22)-[FC Dallas]
    68m(2) - Emerson Hyndman (1996, 22)-[AFC Bournemouth]
    47m(6) - Wil Trapp (1993, 25)-[Columbus Crew SC]

With all the talk about Arena favoring the old guys, his starting XI yesterday was younger than both of Klinsmann's starting XIs from November 2016, as well as every starting XI that Klinsmann used at the 2014 World Cup.

Giving a guy 10 minutes in a friendly already won is NOT integrating at all.

In fact, that the list is so long, is already a damning statement. It means he was just rotating new guys on a whim, with no mind of making any of them part of the system he was trying to implement.

The only guys with many minutes, outside Pulisic & Alvarado, were ones he had already brought in the previous cycle (Yedlin, Morris, Green, Brooks).

They both can have the tendency, as it's been alleged, and there are exceptions to the rule. The lineup at home v. Honduras was super old and they stunk. 6-0 at home v. Honduras and it was prime-aged to a little youngish and same thing last night. So don't backslide in that regard next game just because it's on the road and the war horses have been through that. Worthless if the horses don't have the legs anymore or never did.

He even included a guy who played zero minutes to try and bolster his case. lol

It was not enough of a real integration opportunity for true newer and young enough (youngest possible shouldn't be the goal) players and so many of the ones he gave spots too were reaches simply because of association abroad not MLS. But that guy is consistent that it's what he wants, even if they are a reservist or lower leaguer. The results spoke for themselves, which was next to no depth and terrible performances.

Who didn’t he give minutes to and who did you think deserved more?

There is nothing damning about that list. Any kid that showed potential got a look. Those that didn’t push through didn’t get additional minutes. They got their look and didn’t cost the team as many on here would suggest. Their minutes weren’t any more than the dead wood that Arena has wasted on average MLS players that will never be part of our national team.

You forgot Wood. Lots of talent that many, including you, didn’t see. Pulisic got a call with only 135 minutes with BVB.

If you apply the guy with zero minutes as an example in 2017, you can see why he was included. CCV had made 2 cup appearances when he was called in. He was part of 26 man roster and didn’t dress for the games. If he had gotten more games with Everton, he could have been called in again without the excuse that he didn’t have experience with the team. The same could have been done with McKennie by September and could have been a viable option in these two games.

He brought just about every potential young player in, let them settle in, gave them some minutes, and then told them they had to earn more. It’s not his fault Rubin’s career tailed off, Gyau got injured, hyndmans game didn’t accelerate as much as some hoped, etc.

He ignored many players in mls, but after 2017, I’m not sure that was a bad decision. Maybe someone like Rowe could be useful, but our current coach doesn’t seem to like him. We are stuck with the same CBs while Miazga is ignored, the new outside backs have been horrible. Nagbe sure looks like a sub to me.

There are many things to not like about Klinsmann but comparing his use of young players to Arena’s is just silly. He made Brooks and Yedlin starters pretty regularly after the World Cup. Morris was called in while in college. Wood was added even though struggling at his club. Not necessarily young but Chandler, Johannssen and Diskerud were given larger roles. Pulisic was called in immediately after he broke through with BVB.

He was? I thought people disagreed with his choices of players sometimes, but not that he tried bringing in new guys.
But he got crap for almost everything he did or didn't do (partially with good reason, but sometimes unfairly).

People got mad at him because before the game we expected better results, considering the personnel.

Klinsmann was the first to use Pulisic as the CAM behind Altidore and Wood (Columbus game). And he went out with the three-man back line most here were clamoring for.

After about 10 minutes, with Mexico dominating and close to scoring, we all had jumped from those wagons like rats from a sinking ship.
