the growth of women's soccer in Brazil is good news for everyone. same as in the US or China or England or anywhere
Not surprising, but still disappointing: Brazil considering ending residency program for WNT. Began Feb. 15. Implications would depend on where that $ goes. https://t.co/Gwlv6nLjb4— Jeff Kassouf (@JeffKassouf) August 21, 2016
Just the first step in Brazil pumping in more % of funding for their men going forward, and less % to the women. This was the worst thing that could have happened to the women's team. Their men win gold, and they don't medal. It's an arms race for % of funding that is given out, they'll now get less. Their people now consider Marta as a failure in terms of team success. All their great male players had some sort of team success, at winning the World Cup, Copa America, or now Olympic Gold (Neymar). Not Marta.
Well, the goal was to medal in the Olympics, so I'm guessing it was going to end once the Olympics were over either way. Brazil already has a fairly nicely structured league, and hosts an annual tournament each December, so as to where the money goes... They have the basics all covered, I think, so all that matters would be just beefing up what the already have.
i'd have imagined they already pump so much into the men's team. Surely they should have some for the women and with the publicity for the women, it should be a no brainer.
Sylvia Neid has just retired from the German NT. This might be a good time for Brazil to offer her an contract before another country nabs her. They really could use her discipline style!!!

Gotta use that stadium some way. They also seemed to have the best crowds, so that's a plus for the teams in the tournament.
Even if you were being serious (I can never tell with you), Neid is moving into a different position with the German federation.

Well, so was Marika Domanski Lyfors (in the Swedish federation) when she left as coach with the Swedish WNT didn't stop her from taking a gig as head coach for China.
I don't agree. "Only" 4th place by Brazil that's more on the players and bad luck than on coach himself. Sheer volume of situations created with shots/shots on goal against any opposition by Canarinhas during this tourney speaks to rather good tactical setup. Let's not forget, it was 22 y.o Beatriz a leading goalscorer for Brazil. Let Vadao inject more new blood for the future and the results may come good even for WC'19
Well, I guess I might have to bite the bullet and attend a NWSL match. Now, if Wendie comes next year, I may just buy season tickets..haha..jk! 839895742609252353 is not a valid tweet id
is she coming from the Swedish league? I'm amazed a club like Lyon or PSG or Man City hasn't picked her up over the years
She very much enjoyed Sweden, from what I've gathered in previous interviews. Which (aside from, I assumed, salary) was one of the main reasons she hadn't come back to the States after her stint in WPS.
I forget if her WPS salary was $400k or $500k, but two of the three WPS teams she played one went bankrupt their first year having her - and, when she went back to Sweden after WPS, Tyreso went under as well. She's still probably the highest earner on Rosengard, but the price tag is likely much lower than it had been in WPS.
She wasn't the highest earner when she came to Rosengard (Bachman was), but she possible was from year two and certainly after Bachman moved. IIRC she started at about $100k-$150k (I can't recall the $/SEK course at that moment) and I would guess that she was at about $200k at the end. The reason she stayed for so long in Sweden this time was to secure her after-soccer life, she wanted to get a Swedish citizenship. Not sure if she got one yet, but she lived here long enough now to qualify and if she signed abroad she probably has. By the way, I am pretty sure her salary when she moved to WPS was $400k, but have no clue how that developed when she was there.
Cristiane has announced she's retiring from the NT because she's fed up with the CBF: Cristiane has quit Seleção .
