http://oglobo.globo.com/oglobo/especiais/brasileiro/mat/107926108.asp CBF and the the mobsters at Clube dos 13 have decided to suspend the tournament, including Séries B and C, claiming that the Supporters' Statute is currently inviable. The Supporters' Statute was part of a temporary measure (Medida Provisória) to moralize the national pasttime. CBF claims that they need more time to bring everything to code, rather than go on with the tournament and suffer possible legal consequences. Copa do Brasil matches and Brazilian clubs still in the Libertadores will play their regularly scheduled fixtures.

Okay.. This needs further explanation. What things in the code? What are the specific things they are having trouble with that warrent a shutdown?
Re: Re: Brasileirão suspended indefinitely As far as media announcements, things are still sketchy by what I can find. However, trying to read legal terms in Portuguese is kinda tricky.
Re: Re: Re: Brasileirão suspended indefinitely Thanks.. I'm just totally lost on what it's about at all. Is it fans breaking stadia laws too often or something like that?
Re: Re: Re: Re: Brasileirão suspended indefinitely Seems it's something like that. According to Ricardo Teixeira (President of CBF), they said they can't currently comply with items mostly regarding to supporter's safety and health (i.e.: having ambulances available on grounds, etc)
Re: Re: Re: Re: Brasileirão suspended indefinitely As far as I know, the clubs asked CBF to suspend the championship in order to adapt to the new code. If not they would face the risk of many judicial actions by fans. This new law is like a specific Consumers Code for soccer fans.
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Brasileirão suspended indefinitely That makes total sense. They would be left open to a lot of expensive suits if they were not in compliance with codes on the book and something happened. Comes down to money to fix things, of course.
This is absurd...another embarrasing moment in Brazilian soccer. Why is Ricardo Teixeira still running CBF? Wasnt there heavy accusations and proof of funny money business with this guy a few years ago. Only in Brazil does crap like this happen! Personally I think its an attempt at the game of chicken. The league and clubs dont want to spend money of the thing the statute requires and figure this will put pressure on the government to back off on the statute. Unbelievable!
my bet Is that the games will go on, following some sort of dramatic showing in the press on Thursday following the meeting referenced below in the part of this article in A Tarde, "Agnelo Queiroz afirmou que a Advocacia Geral da União (AGU) já está estudando o caso, para saber se a paralização significa descumprimento do Estatuto. A nova lei prevê que os responsáveis sejam afastados do futebol por até 10 anos. Para Queiroz, a decisão de suspender o Brasileiro foi precipitada. O ministro deve se reunir já nesta quarta-feira com os representantes dos clubes para tentar chegar a um acordo. Segundo ele, há uma desinformação geral a respeito das regras previstas no Estatuto do Torcedor. Entre os temas mais polêmicos do texto, está o de responsabilizar os dirigentes pela segurança do público dentro dos estádios. Boycott! http://esporte.uol.com.br/futebol/ultimas/2003/05/21/ult59u72240.jhtm Some clubs are planning to boycott this shutdown by carrying on with their matches. São Caetano and Paraná are both willing to play each other this upcoming Saturday as scheduled and would only desist play if there were legal implications. SPFC is still willing to face Grêmio this Sunday in Porto Alegre, however, Grêmio's Fábio Koff is one of the 10 team presidents that voted to suspend the tournament.
Hypocrite! http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/soccer/news/2003/05/21/latin_rdp/ Eurico Miranda is now quoted saying "This law was not meant to be implemented, it's a witch-hunt against some directors." What a hypocrite. His own stadium's fences collapsed three years ago because of his carelessnes, doesn't he see he's the witch that's being hunted? This proposition is aimed at careless team officials like him.
Brazil league back ON schedule, no strike CBF confirmed tonight that the league will continue play afterall. Not only that but they will begin to adhere to the new Fan Statute including having random drawing for Refs , they will do that tomorrow for this weeks games.
