Let's face it, AP doesn't care what we think. However supporters all over the country have indicated their support for Columbus. We may not be able to get AP to listen, but perhaps we can get the attention of Austin. I'd like the supporters of Columbus and our allies across the country to boycott the City of Austin. You certainly have alternatives for vacation. Please let's do one of the only things we can to send a message that this behavior is unacceptable.
Well if Texas doesn’t agree to let them play would they have any other option? I would make sure Texas doesn’t
If your team does get moved, God forbid, lots of Quakes fans will be boycotting the Austin home games.
Someone mentioned in the LONG thread that Whole Foods is headquartered I Au***n. Boycotting them might be a good place to start. It would be more helpful to the cause if they KNEW we were boycotting them and why.
Heh -- my wife and I were considering going to Austin & visiting Big Bend NP for the kids' spring break in March. I must confess that since all the Evil Tony shenanigans came out, I've been looking elsewhere... the idea of going to south Texas just doesn't appeal to me (at all) any longer. Maybe I should write the bureau of tourism there and tell them why we'll likely be going elsewhere in March.
Boycotting Big Bend because you're mad at the Austin situation is like boycotting Cleveland because you got the runs after eating Skyline Chili. I mean, would you boycott San Antonio? They're only 90 miles down the road and they're getting screwed just as hard as Columbus.
Austin's a fine, fine city. I don't sense any gloating at our misery and the interest level seems tepid. I don't want the Crew to leave but I sense this is Precourt trying to be ultra hipster as opposed to Austin trying to screw over another city.
Fair enough -- but certainly don't have a lot of incentive to visit Austin, and it sort of led to a talk about other warm weather NP's / cities we can visit (NM, AZ, FL, etc).
So, you're a Gold Star man? Or are you a real connoisseur & go for Empress or one of the lesser known varieties?
I've had many nights that included a 5 AM pit stop at Camp Washington or US Chili. Skyline is to chili what Rzepa is to defending.
Their city council passed a resolution that they should pursue this. So, yes they are actively involved in harming Columbus. I agree, let board of tourism know. Also, perhaps we can engage supporter groups to ease into it in steps: Level 1: people in cbus dont go to Austin Level 2: other supporters - please dont go to your away games in Austin (for now, just agree not to and let your home teams and Austin know 3) people outside columbus boycott Austin and let the city know. If we can get smaller, local commitment first, then larger and larger, we can lesson the attractiveness for Austin. But we need help from other teams supporters and their friends and families 4) this is a big ask, but if supporters threaten to boycott their home games against Austin, it hurts Austin and MLS Just some initial thoughts. Anyway, don't kid yourself that the city of Austin is innocent. They've taken an adversarial position to gain at our expense. The city is a fair target. If an avg 2-3 day stay in the city brings $500 (guess) in value to the city, the lost revenue can escalate quickly.
Hey, that might work -- it's just a quick hop to Saguaro NP (which is another one the kids & I haven't been to), and not all that from from GC and a few others, if we want to spend that much time on the road (just means we'll be flying for sure & not doing the big road trip). (My wife realizes we'll never be able to fully recreate what her dad did, but she'd like to get as close as possible -- as a school teacher, he had the summers off, and so each summer it was pack the family van & camp & visit NP's, and by the time they left home she & all her siblings had been to each & every NP in the Continental 48.)
After reading Bill's blog post yesterday, it seems far too difficult for Austin to end up with a team. Columbus might still leave, but San Antonio's gonna sue the league for everything they can get. None of the three cities may end up with a team. It could be really lose-lose.
I appreciate the sentiment but it is not Austin. It is Precourt and MLS. If we move we need to boycott both and the more that follow throughout the league will be even better.
