No mention of the Kovalev-Ward fight from mid-November. Tbh I've lost much interest in boxing recently but this was one I was eager to see. I scored it for Kovalev by 2 points but I found the middle rounds very tough to score. Kovalev started better and scored a 2nd round knockdown but Ward finished the fight stronger. I know the HBO guy Harold Lederman and ESPN's Dan Rafael scored for Kovalev fairly easily but on the UK stream I was watching their two 'analysts' (who were former boxers - forgot their names) were more favorable towards Ward: One had him winning by a couple points while the other scored a draw. Anyone else watch it? Opinions? Disclaimer: I'm a big Ward fan since I'm from just outside Oakland. hehe
I scored the fight 114-113 for Ward. Kovalev started well and imo the knockdown in second round probably misled him into thinking he had this thing in the bag. With exception of maybe 1 round in the middle of the fight Kovalev hardly managed to connect with cleaner punches while every now and then Ward was able to connect with cleaner punches throughout the fight. Other than that I think the work rate of both boxers wasn't impressive but Ward looked a much smarter boxer than Kovalev. By the way I wouldn't have been surprised if they scored the fight a draw as other rounds were too close to call. Having said that if Kovalev didn't register that knock down in round two Ward would have won it comfortably imo.
Wilder Finishes Washington in Fifth, Retains Title - ESPN http://www.espn.com/boxing/story/_/...on-fifth-round-retain-heavyweight-world-title
Well, it's on. Joshua, the future king of the heavyweight division v. Klitschko, who ruled the heavyweight division for over a decade, before the debacle against Tyson Fury.
This has to go down as classic, but Joshua clearly has glass jaw and if it wasn't for "unexplainable reasons" the fight would have been done in round 6. The finish was epic though. I was jumping up and down and I have to say the finish was probably on par with Pacman and Marquez last fight.
It was an exciting fight and he did show heart to continue. He looks like a champ and says all the right things but strip it all back and the real fighting brain is not there, it's natural in Fury though and he will beat him comfortably if he gets his head straight. Fat man v a brick shit house but a fat man with a brain gases him out. A fit Haye will also take him. Apart from that there's nothing unless Wilder lands an early monster.
Fury doesn't have the mentality of a champion. He said if he comes back and wins the belts again, he will retire right after.
So what if he doesn't have the mentality of a champ or role model. Who gives a shit if he takes a pay day, shows up the cheesy Eddie Hearne hype train and leaves. His understanding for fighting is and will always be on another level to the manufactured Joshua. Time will prove it.
"Glass jaw"? Wlad is one on the most powerful heavyweights in history hit him flush and he still recovered, if anything it answered any doubts about his chin. Though he was shown to be vulnerable in other ways.
