Orozco plays very well for the USMNT. He is the subject for abuse for some reason. Can't place it. Clearly over the hill now. I will take Ventura's brain farts all day over Tim reams guaranteed goal against. Using JK as a barometer for the USMNT is looking more and more complicated. If I were you I would step back from that pit of snakes.
You know this post is pretty interesting. Millions of Latin kids play ball in the US. Literally millions and yet not one is good enough. Those are some kind of odds. Damn Latins.
That's like the fan of the basketball team with the 5-6 point guard who keeps trying to draw charges and the refs never blow the whistle and you yell and get upset about it every time but it's not going to change.
Name one Latin player that should be called in but hasn't in recent years. You can't because racism/cultural bigotry isn't an issue. Coaching is. That's why millions of white kids play soccer in the US and we've only produced one Pulisic. We should be producing several along with a couple of Velas
I can understand waiting to get a new coach until after the World Cup if we're going for one of the coaches currently involved in one of the NTs going to Russia. But if we're losing the year advantage we had just to get another MLS coach, or some Euro guy who's more hype than experience, then what's the point? I'm going to be mad as hell if they wait just to appoint someone like Vermes in the end.
How much money did they charge for a seat at this game? They announced 11k at the game. Looked more like 11.
I agree with you. I just would have phrased the objection a bit differently. Out of 16 players used last night, 4 were of Hispanic heritage (Roldan, Arriola, Agudelo, Rubin). So, 25% of the guys who got on the field. And we had Delgado and Lima on the bench. So, 30% of the guys on the gameday roster. How much more Hispanic should we be? I, too, would have liked to have seen Ramirez at least, but I choose to use Ockham's razor and chalk up bad roster decisions to bad coaching, not some vast racist conspiracy.
There were more Leon fans lining up for a Donovan autograph than American fans in the stands for this game.
That was so uninspiring from Sarachan, I question whether we can survive another six months of that crap with the fan base beaten down after the T&T debacle. He's just a caretaker coach, why not bring in someone else with an inspired take to better utilize the available players. The friendlies are unique events, bring in a group, train for 5-6 days then play a game. It would be easy to bring in a coach, or at a minimum, a tactician. Granted we're a rudderless boat at this point, but allowing Sarachan to continue for another six months is damaging to everyone involved. 98% of the posters on this board would have started Rowe as a primary creator. Sarachan out as caretaker.
Honestly, why are we waiting until after the World Cup to get a coach? You can bet the farm we're not going after one of the guys going to Russia. You know why nothing is happening? It has nothing to do with the USSF election or the bid for the World Cup. They're just waiting for the anger to die down, so they can name as long term coach another guy in the same network. Everything else is excuses.
BTW, Bosnia: 3.5 million people, plus a significant refugee diaspora. Look at their roster: Dzeko, Ibisevic, Begovic, Pjanic, other players up and down the top 5 leagues. Us: 300 million people. You know the story. This was their C team.
I went to the game in Frisco against Columbia, and it's probably colored my opinion about all of those players. I would never call Polster. I worry about the physical side of Trapp's game. And Hyndman was overmatched physically and wasn't good enough to get by guys, at least on the wing. So his drop-off has been no surprise to me.
If those players had better coaches for the past 10 years, they would have been a heck of lot better. Sunil's done a good hiring people in marketing and finance, but an abysmal job of hiring people in Soccer R & D. While soccer is a players game, coaches set an agenda and play people that are willing to follow it - no matter how ill-considered it might be.
who is on the pitch for qualifier or wc in 2022 should we make it from last night? Ike at 32 might actually be worth a look. Maybe his other self, Hamid. Adams just because he's everyone's favorite incarnation of ricardo clark, but has not really any upside beyond lifer MLS (and that's his choice, I believe. I think he does have enough to go higher, depends on whether he's got the soccer balls.)
The federation needs to hire a guy who can have cordial relations with the entire player pool. It's one of the reason I was high on Porter. For all his faults he can manage his relationships with his players well.
I'm not convinced Polster could be a good 1v1 defender if he bent his knees or that Morris's issue in tight spaces is due to his movement, but I thought Warshaw provided some detailed analysis you rarely get to read. He certainly explained my concerns about Trapp better than I did. I also think he needs stay mostly positive to stay employed which is why explained Zimmerman's slow decision making on looking to hard of the killer pass instead of talking about diving in at the corner of the box to give up a needless PK. Warshaw's comments about Morris also highlight what is wrong with our system. he wrote: " he is not good at receiving passes in difficult situations. When he tucks inside from the wing and receives a ball ripped from the center mids to break the lines, he doesn’t control it close enough or maneuver it away from trouble." He played youth ball in a place that never taught him how to use his left for something other than standing on. When Morris was with Tab (at least in camps), the style of play was simple keep away in mid-field instead playing working ion creative attacking combinations to unlock a defense. He then not only played 3 yrs of college soccer, but did with a highly defensive coach playing a very crude attacking style bereft of passes between midfielders but instead seemed to consist of Morris and others chasing balls in channels behind the defense. Then he went to Seattle where someone finally taught him to cross the ball with his left, but still played a more counter attacking style lacking sophisticated passing and movement designed to unlock defenses. So where exactly was he going to to learn the close control near the box that he is currently lacking? Blame the players all you want, I blame the coaches that failed to teach him. The fact he can now cross with his left shows there hope. But he's only got about 4-5 years left before his killer acceleration begins to disappear, so let's hope he's a quick learner.
For the USMNT, yes. But as far as the domestic soccer season, we are a few weeks away. I get there is a hangover here at USM N&A, but a fresh domestic season is about to start.
Completely agree but I for sure don't want Sunil choosing someone. Let the new President get a say in it.
Isn't coach hiring what the new General Manager (very likely Cordeiro) is supposed to do, while the new President (very likely Carter) is going to be just a figurehead? After all, a GOBs network is supposed to be, you know, Bs.
