because they played better and Flu were lucky on the counters. Also, if what happened with the Brasilian police had occurred in La Bombonera, there would already be an outcry by the Brasilian to have the stadium suspended ALso to Andres, Battaglia played unbelievable yesterday and dominated the midfield by himself. Only after the free kick goal did Fluminense do anything worthwhile on the pitch
If it was Boca winning, you would've said that BOca was smart by playing on the counter-attack and that Ischia would've been brilliant for designing such a strategy. Plus, Boca was outplayed during both games overall just by tying at home........Typical of Argies.......sore losers just like when they lost to Once Caldas back in 2004 when BOCA did not stay for the medal ceremony...........I remember Bianchi saying something like...... " well, we didn't know we had to stay for the medal ceremony, we never lose........." <<<<<< That right there is a disgraceful statement because they won the previous 2-3 tournaments and THEY should've seen the 2nd place team go up and get the awards..... In futbol, you lose some and you win some. Either way, you need to be graceful. That's something that does not go thru some people's head.......especially in that "Tango" country.
Because Boca played a GREAT game perhaps? Note that I'm not a Boca fan but I must say Boca did everything like they were supposed to except for scoring the goals. And I know a lot of people here hate the FSE Argie crew but I have to agree with them that Boca pulled all their "mistica and historia" to play a great match against a team that you could easily tell has no Copa experience like Flu (great team don't get me wrong)
Metro
Boca's not a small team that plays for 'the draw' in front of 80k fans playing counter attack. For about 140 minutes it was all Boca and unfortunately luck was not on our side. To say Boca was outplayed is a joke.
Hey, I'm giving you an unbiased opinion. Of course Flu's goalie saved them, which the same couldnt be said for Boca's.
and that was the main difference. Boca's goalkeeper was very unlucky, but to say that Boca got outplayed, IMO, is two be wearing tri-color tinted glasses
In this logic the Man of the Match should have been the goalie that kept Boca from scoring, shouldn't it? I like when a team plays all offense and believe me, I liked the way Boca was playing (I'm not big Boca fan), with all the pivoting by Riquelme and Palermo and the crosses from the midfielders. But you also have to understand that there are more ways to obtain results. Yes Flu was the home team, but they had the advantage of having scored two goals away, so they did not need to pressure. And Maracana field is f#$@%@#$% too big, so why should they run all over the place if they're in the drivers seat? For me Flu tactics were perfect, they played great defense, had a solid keeper and three fast men to counterattack Boca. Boca had some shots on goal, but most of their shots were contested, with a man on, tough angles, etc, etc, and the keeper was great too. On the other hand Flu had at least three wide open fastbreaks before scoring the 2nd goal (which I concede was bad luck by Ibarra). But when Palermo scored they did not panic, they made the most of their opportunities and exploded Boca's weaknesses. Is that playing bad? For me it was brilliant how Flu's coach orchestrated the game.
Nobody is saying Boca is not a great team...for its history and its current players. But many many many times other teams have done what BOCA did last night and have come up short just like BOCA did. BOCA was outplayed during 180 minutes and it shows because they lost the series. Like Dapip said, Fluminense did not have the urgency that Boca had and BOca was the one that had to go a look for the game and it played exactly to Fluminense's hands.......they TOOK ADVANTAGE of BOCA and for this reason were better. I don't think Boca lost because it was unlucky, it lost because Fluminense mas more effective and took advantage of its moments. I mean, they did tie it up in Argentina on the first game......, which pretty much gave them a leg and half up on the series. Boca was the lesser team in this series and Fluminense has been a better team tournament round. It was not BOCA's year.... I don't that's hard to see. Good thing the ref didn 't really affect the outcome, if so, I could've seen the excuses coming from 5 miles away.
The Riquelme situation served right for those dumbasses of Niembro, Closs and co. who were suggesting(let it be a serious suggestion or not) to take Boca's squad to the qualifier match against Brazil.
No idea if in FSE but in the southamerican FOX Sports they did suggest that. Funny thing is that they said such before River-San Lorenzo was about to start.
i think he was making a joke at that since Argentina always losing to Brasil but Boca has a good record against them, that Argentina should play with the Boca jersey, not that the team itself should
Oh yeah, forgot about this one. This is another great take. Too bad the bosteros don't buy into what dapip and FLFootballFan have to say. More rep on the way.
As much as I enjoy listening to the Argentine commentators on Fox Sports they are way too biased that it gets annoying. It's actually a good thing to hear them cry and moan about losing. They picked Battaglia as man of the match and embarrasing the network with such a choice. A Mexican announcer dubbed himself into the broadcast and chose Washington as player of the game just to save face. About the game, Fluminense were able to put their chances away but did not play like the home team is expected to. Boca lost because they made the most mistakes both in Buenos Aires and at the Maracana. In both legs I saw a Boca that created the most chances and applied the most pressure. Fluminense were able to hold a more solid backline and expose Boca's defensive weaknesses (Caceres, Paletta and their replacement gk) with their very talented forwards. Fluminense capitalized when needed on a foul, an own goal and a ball that was given away 3/4 of the field by Palacio. If Boca had their two CBs from last year Cata Diaz and Clemente Rodriguez there could have been a whole different series. Also I'll criticize Ischia for putting in Ibarra that has recently come back from injury into such an important game. He should have kept Maidana who may not be as good but has played with the team a number of times.
