I agree re his potential - but I'm not sure why you think he'd be playing that many games (unless we have a whole bunch of injuries)?

The same Lallana that knits the midfield together and has been an almost automatic starter for Klopp since he arrived in October 2015 - that Lallana will be on the bench? Yeah ok.

We don't have a replacement for lallana - that's the point. Asking a 17 yr old and 20 year old to have the same impact as one of our top players is optimistic at best.

That's why people have advocated adding a midfield all summer.

we now have Salah and Mane flanking Firmino plus a healthy Hendo in MF. I doubt Lallana will be starting as many games at all.

Woody is being groomed for the playmaker role (nbr 10 or nbr 8). yes he's a kid but Klopp is very very high on him as shown by the minutes he's been getting in the past 12 months. nobody is saying he'd have the same impact and nobody is saying throw him in the deep end but imo off the bench he can become more and more influential.

grujic also has great potential and now he's healthy I expect we'll see a lot more of him this season.

We have some very good youngsters pushing their way into the squad, but we've also got a lot of games and a number of first team players who are famously fragile. We should only spunk for players we see as adding significant quality, but we could certainly use some additional help in the back line (obviously) and MF. 1 or 2 more strong additions would be great.

Now we will never know if Klopp planned to play Coutinho and Lallana together in central midfield. It would have been a very lightweight midfield but frighting in attack. Now we will see Coutinho with Can/Wijnaldum. Grujic and Woodburn are still a long ways away from starting but there will be more opportunities for them now. If someone else emerges at left back, Milner could once again be a midfield option.

Lallana is a huge loss. He was brilliant last season and is a leader in the team. Hopefully he recovers well and it will be like a new signing when he returns.

Pretty lousy work by our staff and manager if this is actually true.
A pill or two to keep a slight knock from affecting you - cool.
But four/five/six pills has to have a mental effect - and it isn't a surprise that he suffers most in the mental aspects of the game.

and if he (Lovren) is that "banged up" surely we would've pressed beyond VvD for a replacement/backup...

So a crocked and gaffe prone Lovren is better than our other options? FFS...

This is really alarming. Agger did the same thing over an extended period of time, and taking the pills (a) in some instances actually exacerbated his existing injuries, and (b) contributed to making his body so broken that he lost effectiveness at an early age, and had to retire from football at an only slightly less early age.

Mane out for so long is a blow, he's probably become our best player since arriving. But on the plus side I think Lallana is close to returning and Ox-C was bought to give us some depth to cover injuries like this. Time for him to step up.

Not too many teams can replace their best player with a similar quality back up, we certainly can't . But having said that our attacking options are supposed to be the strong area of the squad and if we can't remain competitive after the loss of one player then we might as well throw in the towel now.
