I don't think it's anything to do with "football" vernacular. It's more northern england slang I think.

I heard we might sign some Fekir from Lyon that can play in Oxlade’s spot.

Matip is the forgotten man. Last summer was all about signing a partner for Matip. His first season he was one of the first names on the team sheet. There was no chance of him falling behind Lovren in the pecking order. Last season did not go well for him, but hopefully he can find his form again. We all thought he was a top player at one point.

It will be a competition between Matip and Gomez this preseason to see who partners VVD to start the season. Lovren surely won’t be ready.

I think both he and Henderson have a task on their hands to make the starting line up given that they will miss the bulk of preseason. Yet, you never know.

Seems we have a bit of an injury crisis at cb already heading into our first game.

Lovren and Klavan defo out while Gomez and Matip will be assessed.

Lovren: “I cannot train at all because of stomach muscle issues. I am suffering a lot of pain and will see a specialist doctor in the Netherlands. When did I start to feel it? I felt it during the World Cup.”

Down to VVD and Phillips as the only two fully fit for tomorrow.

This Lovren injury is strange. Did he not tell the club about it? Sounds like he just showed up after 3 weeks holiday unable to train. Why is he only now seeing a specialist?

I read that Lovren also says the club "are not happy with him " so I assume he did not tell them about his injury.

    He needs a good slap.
