it seems the transfer fee is going to be much bigger .... they are now writing that it's €4.5 million ($5.2 million) + a possible €2 million in add-ons ...

Midtjylland learned their Champions League second qualifying round draw this morning. They will play the winner of Astana v. Sutjeska on either July 24 or 25.

It'll be Astana (champions of Kazakhstan). They've reached the CL group stages once and the EL group stages twice in the last three seasons. Sutjeska are Montenegrin champions, so their players will be technically proficient, but their European record is lousy and the league is very weak.

Bill's gonna come good. Even if he spends a few years in the Danish league, I feel he can succeed there.

As earlier written, FCM sold the young talented left back/midfielder Andreas Poulsen to the German Bundesliga side Borussia Mönchengladbach, but now they have signed his replacement, the Swedish U-21 international Joel Andersson. from BK Häcken.... Andersson has signed a 5-year contract with FCM who are paying a 10 million Danish Crowns (Kroner) transfer fee... a bit more than €1.3 million ...
    https://www.transfermarkt.com/joel-andersson/profil/spieler/255469

FCM have send their other Anderson, the Icelandic U21 international left winger Mikael Anderson, on a 1-year loan to the Dutch Eredivisie side Excelsior :
    https://www.transfermarkt.com/excelsior-rotterdam/transfers/verein/798/saison_id/2018

FCM have also released the now 35-yo former Dutch International Rafael van der Vaart (who is now rumoured to newly promoted Superliga side Esbjerg), while FCM have signed their former CB Erik Sviatchenko, who return to FCM from Celtic on a permanent deal, paying Celtic a bit more than €1 million for him.

As also earlier written, they signed the 24-yo Canadian NT CB/DM Manjrekar James from newly relagated Hungarian Vasas Budapest and send him on a 1-year loan to the Danish 1. division side Fredericia, to give him time to settle and adjust to the style of play ... otherwise they have also send a string of their younger talents on loan and signed a 5-year contract with the18-yo Swedish DM Jens Cajuste, who join them from Swedish side Örgryte.... but no new goalkeepers, so they must be quite happy with Hamid and Jesper Hansen.

again, this was such an ill-conceived move.

why move to denmark to sit on the bench?? makes no sense!!

I guess moving abroad to play in Europe was the main reason why he left MLS ... I'm sure he could probably have moved to Finland, getting half the money and be a regular starter from day-one ... But I'm guessing that he picked Denmark and FCM because the money is fairly good and it should be easier to become a regular starter in compare with the German Bundesliga and then Denmark is right next door to England, the culture is not that different and FCM is owend by the English owner of Brentford, which could make a potential future move to England much easier... and there is a pretty fine export of both Danish and foreign goalkeepers from the Danish league and also quite many foreign NT keepers playing in Denmark as it is, like both the NT 1st keeper from Iceland and Sweden at the WC-18 ...

yes i wanted ghim to leave MLS...to actually play though!

i didnt like the move from the beginning...then when he wasnt playing at first...people said be patient!

but now...it's getting ridiculous. he's good enough to be a starter somewhere in EU first division, imo...and he should be. if he was going to just ride the bench in Eu...he shouldve stayed in MLS....

i think he just picked the wrong team.

I'd concur. He moved to a club on a winning streak. He signed with them October 25, 2017. The club had 6 more matches before the winter break. Of course, he couldn't play with them until February. So, by then it was months out of form and the club was doing pretty great. Just tough overall. Had he joined Frankfurt, he'd have been no.2 but probably the same situation. Though, he'd have a German cup trophy rather than a Danish league title.

thing is majority of reports in Germany were saying for ages that Frankfurt's keeper Hradecky was leaving Frankfurt at the end of the season. Had Hamid went to be #2, his chances to be #1 could have been a possibility in the Summer....

That's true. So, I guess it comes down to

was Hamid assured to be the #1 at FCM?

or was it $$$ that made him sign for them?

or could it be that he didn't believe Frankfurt would give him the number 1 role once Hradecky left?

The media here in Denmark said that he picked FCM because Frankfurt were doing their best to keep Hradecky and only were interested in signing Hamid as 2nd keeper while looking for a new 1st keeper elsewhere, not least here in Denmark ... so he signed with FCM because there was little to no chance of him being the future replacement for Hradecky ...

Only the FCM coach knows, but they did let him play 3 important games last season within a short period of time, so they clearly were hoping the best, but he did just not grab the chance, but did some silly mistakes, which you can't do in the final stage of a season, when you are that close to become Champions and also win the Cup tournament ...

btw ... there is a new development regarding the 4-year contract FCM just sigend with Drexler .... the German has hardly even moved to Denmark and joined FCM before their Director of sport admit that they now got an offer from the German Bundesliga ... according to Danish media it's Mainz who are very keen on buying Drexler ... If FCM are to sell him, the price tag will be around $5 million.

Bill better bring it this year. A few weeks until CL qualifying

The league season starts on this Saturday. They play AGF (Feilhaber's former team. The one he stayed with even when they dropped to the 2nd division).

It would take more than a miracle for Sutjeska to eliminate Astana ... the Montenegrin league is ranked 46th in Europe only two spots above the Faroe Islands ... Kazakhstan is ranked 26th in the league ranking, right behind the Scottish PL and right above Norway.... and the Danish league is a level better than these leagues ... but in these early stages of the CL qualifiers Astana got the advantage of not being rusty or on summer break but are in mid season and in top shape...

Last season Astana won the league only 1 point ahead of Kairat (that has never qualified for a group stage in Europe) ... and Astana was then trashed 5-0 in the 1st leg of the CL play-off's by Celtic in Glasgow, which still made them qualify for the Europa League group stage where they managed to progress from their group ahead of Maccabi Tel Aviv and Slavia Prague, but then Israel is not ranked much higher than Kazakhstan in th league ranking and Slavia Prague had not managed to qualify for a group stage since 2010 ... it's difficult to say how good Astana is this season, but if they are no better than the team that got trashed by Celtic in the CL qualifiers last season, then even a rusty looking FC Midtjylland should be able to beat them.

So I wasn't too concerned when Hamid didn't play much last year because he joined a team mid-season that was top of the table.

But not starting now that he's had a full preseason?

    Now I'm concerned.

Bill is supposedly 1/2 in our national team pecking order. But if he's not playing while Steffen/Horvath/Gonzalez/Yarbrough are, I don't even call him for camps.
