But why did it make perfect sense for a 27-yo Hamid to sign with Midtjylland ...

    1) They are a top team in Denmark, owned by the English owner of Brentford , so English clubs including Brentford especially have an eye on FCM .. and in general English and German clubs are scouting for keepers and CB's in the Superliga, because this is where the very best Nordic keepers and CB's are playing before moving on to the top 5 leagues, usually as instant regular starters ...

2). Midtjylland do not really have an established 1st keeper as it is ... and at the age of 27 you quickly need to prove your worth as 1st keeper to have any chance of moving on to be an instant regular starter in one of the top 5 leagues ...

US keepers usually are signed by PL clubs. But he lacked the work permit. And he wasn't interested in being a no.2 in Germany, so his options were probably somewhere in Scandinavia or maybe Belgium.

From what you say, Denmark was the ideal place for him and Midtjylland was the best place he could sign for.

I'd have hoped he might have had interest in maybe a France or Portugal but they never seem to scout US players even our keepers.

Bill Hamid was the only player contracted to a team outside of MLS to be a part of January camp this year.

Hamid is getting a few new team-mates to help out in defense, because FCM are bringing back home their 26-yo former centre back and captain Erik Sviatchenko from Celtic ...they have also signed the 23-yo Gambian NT centre back Bubacarr Sanneh form AC Horsens ... two excellent signings ...

When he was FCM captain, Sviatchenko was rumoured to the English PL after they bumped off Southampton in the Europa league play-off's in 2015-16 and also progressed from the group stage to face Man U in the Round of 32, but a bit surprisingly FCM sold him in the winter break to Celtic for $2 million before the two Man U games.

He did well at Celtic but was then struck by a knee injury that has kept him out most of the first half of this season, but inspite of his injury, FC København made a bid on him at the start of this season, but Celtic were demanding around $4 million to let him go while he was still long-term injured, so FCK gave up on him at that point in time but have seemed highly interested in getting their hands on him in this winter transfer window, now that he is fit for fight ... Bubacarr Sanneh has been excellent as CB for Horsens so far ths season, even scoring 4 goals and making 3 assists in 16 superliga games

... so FCM are really going all in to win the Championship this season...

Perhaps I should add, that FCM are only getting Sviatchenko on a loan deal to the end of this season. Because of his past injury, FCM are not ready to pay that big a transfer fee and Celtic do not want to sell him cheap, at least not at this point in time, on the other hand, they sigend an expensive replacement for him when he got long-term injured, so right now Celtic have too many centre backs who demand to be regular starters, so letting Sviatchenko get back into top shape playing for FCM, could be to the advantage of both Celtic and FCM who know what he stands for... Sviatchenko regard both Celtic and FCM as a step on the road to the English PL, so he just need to be a regular starter.

I don't think Hamid will play the Bosnia game. I see him coming in doing a little training with the other keepers and then going back to Denmark when they start training up again. However their first game back isn't until Feb 10th. So he realistically could start against Bosnia and still have a good amount of time with the club.

He's not going to auto start coming out of the break. Midtjylland is sitting in first place currently and probably don't want to change anything up for the time being

    That's what I'm worried about.

I keep debating no.2 at a mid-table German club or fighting to be no.1 at among the best clubs in Denmark. If all goes well,he could be no.1 by season's end and have Champions League in the Fall. If all goes well...

FCM is not really a conservative kind of club that religiously stick to a fixed starting 11 just because they are doing well in the league.. or in other words, they did not just sign Hamid, Sviatchenko and Bubacarr Sanneh to having them warming the bench just because they have done better than expected so far this season.

Fact is that the club management have not been all to happy about their defense so far this season, except for their Czech Rep. NT left back Filip Novák who has been absolutely brilliant, but who they are on the brink selling in this transfer window... so I'm pretty sure they have signed Hamid, Sviatchenko and Bubacarr Sanneh to strengthened their defense and make up an expected loss of Filip Novák.

    FCM winter break friendlies :
    https://www.fcm.dk/nyheder/superliga/opdateret-ulvenes-vinteropstart

They have already played against 1.FC Kaiserslautern (0-1) ... and against Hobro (2-2) : https://www.bold.dk/fodbold/kamp/fc-midtjylland-vs-hobro/20623084/

... but besides Hamid, who are with the USMNT, they are also missing 5 of their Danish players who are in U-21 and League NT camp, including Hamids only rival as 1st keeper, Jesper Hansen, so I would not be worried about these first few friendlies ... but a nice free kick goal by Rafael van der Vaart against Hobro never the less ..

Btw ... as expected, FCM have just sold their 27-yo Czech Rep. NT left back Filip Novák to Turkish side Trabzonspor for a transfer fee said to be somewhere between $ 2.3 m (€ 1.9 m) and $ 3 million (€ 2,5 m) ...

The latest transfer news is that Ajax are highly keen on signing FCM's young 20-yo Danish U-21 NT right back Rasmus Nissen ... the transfer fee discussed is suppose to be in the €4-5 million ($4.9 m to $ 6.1 million) range ... but not to panic ... it all makes pretty good sense that FCM are signing centre backs and selling their top quality left and right back, considering that they did quite poorly in defense at the start of the season, but improved greatly after changing to 3-4-3 ... so it all makes pretty good sense...

Your unwillingness to use Google drives me nuts, but you always ask questions that I need to know the answers to.

Incoming: Daniel Agger, €4 million (2014), Liverpool to Brondby
Outgoing: Emre Mor, €9.75 million (2016), Nordsjaelland to Dortmund

a bit more than € 10 million ($ 12.3 million) is the biggest so far, point being that to keep the top talent at least for a few years, Danish clubs make a deal to let them go at a fairly "low" price ... I know that you like Daniel Agger and he went from Brøndby to to Liverpool for around $ 10.4 million .... but you are probably never ever going to see a a transfer bigger than $ 16.5 millon from the Superliga, no matter if it's a new "Laudrup" or "Eriksen" ...highest transfer ever into the league ever was around $5.8 million ... but the more natural top limit is around $ 3.3 m to $ 4 million ...

Perhaps I should add that the biggest transfer ever both in and out of the Superliga was Andreas Cornelius (at the age of 20) from FC københavn to Cardiff and back again to København ...
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andreas_Cornelius

He was sold for DKK 75 million (£ 8 million back then , now £ 8.9 million or around $12.3 million) got injured almost straight away after he moved to Cardiff and so the club owner Vincent Tan decided that it had been a terrible signing and had him sold back to FCK for around £ 4 million (DKK 35 million) after only 1½ year at the club...

Transfermarkt has it's flaws ... they do not even know how to use their own source, because then Christian Poulsen (DKK 56 m = £ 6.65 m = $ 9.22 m or £6.3 back then) and Daniel Amartey (DKK 54 million = £6.4 m = $8.9 m or £5.94 m back then) would have been in their list as well :
    https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/christian-poulsen/profil/spieler/1443
    https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/daniel-amartey/profil/spieler/214056

The list is also missing players like :
    Dame N'doye (DKK 47 m = £5.58 m)
    Ebbe Sand (DKK 40 m = £4.75 m)
    Brede Hangeland (DKK 38 m = £4.51 m)
    Ragnar Sigurdsson (DKK 37.5 m = £4.45 m)

Btw, all sales from the Superliga should be measured in Danish crowns (kroner = DKK), considering that the value of the Brittish £ has dropped quite a bit since they left the EU, while DKK is a much more reliable currency that practically never has changed in compare with the € (euro) ... I recommend the calculator below, if you need to convert US$ or Danish kroner into $ , £ or € ... it's always kept up to date according to the daily figures from the Danish National Bank :

According to both Dutch and Danish media it now seem to be a done deal that Ajax are going to sign the young FCM right back Rasmus Nissen ... the transfer fee is now said to be DKK 33.5 m = € 4.5 m = $ 5.51 million.

Yet another centre back seem on his way to FCM to help out in defense ... it's the 27-yo newly capped Swedish international of Greek ancestry Sotirios Papagiannopoulos, who has impressed very much this season in the Europa League for Swedish Östersunds FK, even scoring away against Hertha in the group finale, where he was also named Man of the Match.

Hamid now has one less "rival" at the club, because FCM have sold their 26-yo 3rd keeper Michael Falkesgaard to Bangkok United for around $400k ... Falkesgaard who is a Dane of Filipino descent with dual citizenship, has signed a 2-year contract said to be worth $1.6 million including performance bonus, so that is surely an excellent deal for a 3rd keeper with less than 20 Superliga games to his name....

According to both clubs, it's now also official that Ajax have signed FCM's Danish U-21 NT right back Rasmus Nissen ... According to Dutch media, the transfer fee is said to be DKK 40 million = € 5.37 m = $ 6.58 million, though transfermarkt report the deal to be worth €5.5 million = $ 6.74 million.
    https://www.transfermarkt.com/rasmus-nissen-kristensen/profil/spieler/369684

The Superliga is especially good at exporting centre backs, but not really that many left or right backs, which usually also is where the Danish NT lack some depth ... and this is the biggest sale ever for a right back out of the Danish league for sure ... so it's safe to say that we are all quite surprised ... not least because this is his first season as a regular starter for FCM ... and this was also suppose to be a quiet winter transfer window according to the club management, when asked around a month ago.

Friday, Crystal Palace made a €5 million (+ a possible €2 million performance bonus) bid on FCM's 22-yo Norwegian NT striker Alexander Sørloth ... the offer was refused by FCM straight away, but now Crystal Palace have returned with a €10 m ($12.4 million) offer, though half of the money is still a performance bonus, depending on how he will do.for them in the EPL, so FCM have also refused this offer, but with a few days left of the transfer window, there is still a chance that they will return with a better offer that FCM will not be able to refuse.

In a possible related news, FCM have made a bid on the 23-yo South African NT winger/striker Percy Tau :

Is this a a potential sequel to the Danish player who scored a bunch in SuperLiga and moved to Cardiff and barely got a few games?

Your league is really getting some nice coin these days.

That was Andreas Cornelius, but he was only 20 back then and got injured straight away .. their silly owner Vincent Tan then got cold feet and sold him back to FC København for half the money they paid for him ... but he has done well both for FCK and the Danish NT since then and is now playing in the Italian serie A..

But it will be pretty impressive if FCM manage to sell Alexander Sørloth to Crystal Palace only 8 month after they signed him from the Dutch Eredivisie side Groningen for only $500k after he had not really managed to settle inspite of his big potential... I mean, he turned 22 only two month ago but has won more caps for Norway than 28-yo Ola Kamara who I'm sure you know from MLS.
