Re: BigSoccer Ligue 1 Fantasy Football League - Predictions, Results and Standings co

The fantasy league season ended in spectacular fashion as unfancied Lille managed by the long serving American coach panicfc guided Lille to their maiden title in this inaugural season after it seemed that capital club Paris Saint Germain would seal the championship going into the final few weeks with a 3 point gap over the Douges. After a highly disappointing result at home to Ajaccio left the Parisians with only a two point gap, they knew that just a draw at Metz would all but see the title come home to Paris barring an unlikely miracle. But Parisian expectations did not go to plan after a disastrous opening 45 minutes. Despite a Paris revival in the second, they succumbed to their 2nd successive league defeat to put the ball squarely in Lille’s court. But Lille themselves appeared to be struggling for some consistency at the Stade de la route de Loreint. 2-2 and heading into injury-time, most of the PSG players were camped on the Metz turf cautiously listening to events in Brittany. With seconds remaining the Paris Saint Germain players were left aghast and slumped on the pitch as in the 92nd minute Lille snatched a incredible winner to send the travelling Lille fans into raptures, to condemn the Parisians to 2nd spot and clinch an unlikely turnaround for the Northern side. After leading the way for so long and seeing a lead scythed down by the capital club towards the end of the season - Lille proved to have more of the mental strength of the two as they leapfrogged into the 1st on the very last kick of the season to cap an amazing start to the inaugural BSFFL1. With Parisian players and fans in utter disbelief, coach ganu mused - ‘we only have ourselves to blame. We needed just one win in our final two games, and for one game we needed only one win. Credit to panic and his Lille side. They stuck through until the very end and never gave up. They wanted it more than us.’

Lille have planned a tour through the streets of the city to celebrate their victory where the players and coach shall receive the keys to the city and free ‘moules et frittes’ for life.

But if you thought that the title race was even more thrilling, then the relegation battle was just if not as exciting. Going into the final games of the season, 3 sides occupied the last two spots, all with a realistic chance of going down. Lyon coached by local(ish) boy made good guignol who took over the realms from fired coach Breakwood in the spring has been a revelation at the Gerland club, helping his team come within touching distance of staying out of Ligue 2. Both Le Mans, coached by enigmatic Parisian Cass75, who once led the standings in Ligue 1 and Ajaccio with their equally as abrasive coach The Old Lady Hertha have enjoyed mixed fortunes in the final few months leading up to the final games of the season. Despite Ajaccio’s win over title challengers PSG at the Parc des Princes last week, Le Mans lead the trio of relegation battlers after their 4-0 thrashing of Lens at home. The final week, would see a fitting finale, as Lyon meet Le Mans at the Gerland with the winner guaranteed Ligue 1 football next season. Ajaccio would need to hope a draw and a win for them would see them into safety. A nervy first 30 minutes was soon eradicated as Lyon stepped up the pace and soon cruised into the lead. Some more decisive finishing left Le Mans reeling and the 7-4 win, meant that Lyon had survived relegation and beaten the drop, sending down their opponents in the process. The fans and players hoisted coach guignol above their heads and the stadium rang out with a chorus of his name. The impossible job had been achieved. As a result, Ajaccio’s 6-2 win at home to St-Etienne was rendered useless. They will now be playing 2nd division football next season along with Troyes who were never in the races since iougs departure last year despite some good late season form.

Auxerre under the stewardship of Forgeron clinched the golden boot after some consistent goal scoring throughout the season that has seen them reach the Champions League qualifiers as a result. 13 goals difference between them and PSG in second showed the clear gulf in class they have produced up top this season. Nancy and their coach sl7vk will feel bitterly disappointed as their 6-4 win in the principality was not enough to steal the Champions League spot and they will have to be content with a UEFA Cup spot. The home defeat for Monaco also signalled a poor end to the year for the highly inconsistent Monaco and Looper121. Brilliant in some games, but out of it the next, the Monaco faithful will be demanding more than a 14th place finish. Both Borruma, Pierre-Henri and Nanbawan all shook off shaky form and irate fans and chairman as they climbed above the relegation places to stave off danger with games to spare.

Nantes (distrunner450) and St-Etienne (Montréal United) must also have to contend with midtable mediocrity after something of an inconsistent year. Nantes climbed themselves into respectability after a dreadful run of results, whilst St-Etienne will need to find more long term form if they are to challenge next season.

Both Toulouse under toulousain and Lens under Forza_Italia will be happy with their final finish to the season and will view next season as something to build on from this season’s performances. Toulouse’s all out attacking flair left many fans delighted with their value for money entertainment. But sceptics in the media and those on various internet message boards were also quick to lambast the team’s defensive frailties in their over the top attack as they yielded over 200 goals despite scoring 194 at the other end. Intertoto places could prove to be a good bonus for the players at the Violet and Sang et Or respectively. The last Intertoto spot was clinched by Quango and his Nice side. Despite boasting a well drilled squad with lots of attacking talent they failed to finish teams off and not enough form at the right time cost them a place in the UEFA Cup as a result.

Self dubbed ‘King of the Smack’ and ‘Torrent of the media’ by those in the publication trade, irishwhisper took an unfancied and unambitious club to the brink of Champions League but could only be content with a UEFA cup spot. Despite something of a fairy tale story in the league, the coach’s infamous clashes on and off the pitch with officials and rival managers and seen the young Irishman warrant something of a loudmouth label within the game. But like him or loathe him, the Metz fans are seemingly delighted after seeing their relegation battlers turned into European hopefuls. The final UEFA Cup spot will be occupied by Marseille who after a narrow win over Marsiglia’s Bordeaux may still feel disappointed by their end of season form which could have yielded a CL spot. The Bordeaux fans also tell of a similar story and despite an incredible run which saw the club rise up to 3rd place from midtable obscurity, bizarre tactical formations and obscure signings swung the good ship Bordeaux across choppy waters and into the storm. 11th place tells of a poor end to the season for the Girondins.

    Can't believe I lost.

    Typical PSG.

Oh well, I think you deserved it, you lead for a large chunk of the season.

It was the intestinal fortitude that won it for Lille. PSG is/was a strong club all year long and it comes down to who is lucky.

Lille was lucky, PSG was not.

Ye good job to ganu on running the league, you did a good job and it was a bit of fun aswell.

I feel I did a great job at Metz but disappointed I didn't claim a Champions League spot but irishwhisper will be back next year to guide his team to the title (can't be Metz since they're relegated). So can i have the Valenciennes job for next season???

Can an Irishman win the league next season??

Only one team goes to the Intertoto Cup now. ;)

But congrats to everyone. I need work to do. But at least I am right where Ajaccio is in the standings. I should get an award for that. :) Most accurate award. :)

Congrats to panic ; and Ganu for his incredible work, i must admit it was really fun, what a pity Gueugnon aren't in L1, cause FCG in Champions League that would have been better  As a matter of fact, i'll probably not leave Auxerre, even though Guy Roux's pressour is hardyl bearable :D

It's quite possible that the young, brash manager of Nantes will head south to stage a coup to take over his boyhood club, Les Verts. In BSL1FFL, anything is possible! :D :p
