Not that I'm being bitter or anything, but you should bear in mind that John Charles was voted Italian football's greatest foreign player. Which not only makes him worthy of a place in the Top 50, but if taken at face value, ahead of Maradonna, Van Basten, etc.

To take Hugo Sanchez out of the top 50 is a crime. Hugo has the record for most goals in a season and dont forget he was voted to Real Madrids all time dream team, a 5 time pichichi and four of them coming in a row. No other player in the spanish league can say they were pichichi four times in a row. He was also european golden boot winner. This is more than enough to be in the top 50
Well I thought Breitner in for Shearer was fair? Breinter was world class as a left-back for Germany and Bayern and as a playmaking midfielder for Real Madrid, Germany and Bayern. He played two 3rds as the latter and the early part of his career as the former. Breitner's actually a legend...he was very good in big international games and won everything at club and International level. I don't think Rummenigge out for Batistuta is correct. Rummenigge deserves to be in the top 50 more than Batistuta does. I also think there should be a place for Michael Laudrup here. And of course, the "fear" of taking Maradona or Pele out of the no.1 spot still exists
This is not a valid arguement. What you need to do is explain why Hugo Sanchez should be in the top 50 ahead of players that are in the top 50. Every one of these players has great accomplishments. Personally, I feel all the strikers that are on the current top 50 list(Van Basten, Muller, Kocsis, Nordahl, Eusebio, etc.) were better than Sanchez.
Rummenigge was a great player. But what Batistuta did during his career I feel trumps Rummenigge. Batigol's goal rate was better internationally and at club level. And you can't forget Batistuta played for Fiorentina at a time when Serie A was by far the best league in the world. His competition was tougher than what Rummenigge had to play against.
