Same club from the 20s, right? Peppe kept paying taxes, so they can put stars on their shirts representing all the Open Cups they won?
I hate "brand narratives," but whatever. I just want to get a scarf for my dad for Christmas. He lives there.
Several people have pointed out some gnarly kerning in that logo. The team has come out and said it will be re-kerned before merchandise is produced. Besides that, it's pretty awesome. I may have to get that for my dad, too. My grampa is from Pennsylvania.
Very nice. Rumor is that Brendan Burke former Reading PDL, ex-Union Assistant coach might take over. Would be a good choice. Earnie Stewart could do it himself IMO.
Until Earnie gets rolling any coaching decisions would seem odd to me... not that Burke wouldn't be a good fit, but I would hope the new Sporting Director has a say on coaches and players. I would hate for members of the old regime getting recycled too much.
Well he was very successful at Reading, some of his graduates include Union players like Wenger and Sapong. I am sure Stewart will have say in the coach for BSFC.
Very true. However, in the last 3 days, they've won, hired Earnie Stewart and then nailed the USL announcement. Including canning Nick Sakovic, there is a lot of positive vibe building for a otherwise sucky franchise.
"positive vibe" .... don't look over on the Union board too hard, you might be disappointed. that being said I do believe the Bethlehem team is absolutely a step in the right direction. I'm very interested in seeing what Union academy products end up playing for the Steel.
Both Steel FC and Energy FC needs to make the USL finals. So we could have an Energy FC versus Steel FC finals. How cool would that be?
BREAKING: Brendan Burke named inaugural head coach. Press conference tomorrow at 10 a.m. at PPL Park.— Philadelphia Union II (@PhilaUnionII) October 28, 2015 http://www.uslsoccer.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=32800&ATCLID=210457494
I was referring to the fact that both sides have unconventional names and not just city name with fc added. Or. united added city ( except for Oklahoma City because city is actually apart of it's name ) added.
Oh. I thought you were drawing some connection between steel and energy as building blocks of industry or life or something.
I was curious about that myself. “Iron Pigs” was an unconventional, cool sounding name too, but how many people under 50 do you suppose actually got the reference to pig iron, or even know what it is? Nonetheless, we must have tradition, not matter how old it is.
It was explained in the local media when the name was announced but now no one cares and it's just the name of our local AAA team.
Except the baseball team uses "IronPigs" as one word. Really like the strip of bacon logo on the baseball caps
