I was going to split the summaries up into 3 lots of 8 seasons, but since two were missing and 09/10 has high ratings, I'll split it into 3 lots of 6 (effectively - with 92/93 and 93/94 unavailable) and one 4 season summary for 06/07 to 09/10.

Then I'll do an overall summary.

(Surely adjusting the ratings becomes harsh on the goalies and other mid to low ranked players as I've noticed the variance in ratings was greater this season - lower low ones as well as higher high ones; but still the top ranked goalie was 70+ in the list, and the 2nd one 100+ so they didn't rate comparatively highly this season even compared to normal).

Correction for 2010/11 to this list of DBS Calcio Premier League Players of the Season:
    2010/11 1) Scott Parker (West Ham/England), 2) Carlos Tevez (Manchester City/Argentina), 3) Peter Odemwingie (West Brom/Nigeria)

I had previously not accounted for Carroll's games for Liverpool (he actually had less than 20 games for Newcastle too).

The only other change, as previously mentioned, is Zola being 1st for 96/97.

Philippe Albert could be top for 95/96 if the threshold was 50% of games rather than more than 20 (he had 20 rated games exactly). But I'd suggest Curcic stays the DBS POTY for that season probably, and just Parker and Zola are amended seasonal winners of that theoretical prize.

Another quick re-post, to show Suarez being included in 2010/11 (13 games not deemed enough to be in the general top rated player summaries though even with the adjusted method - I said 19 minimum but Robben had 16 so I'll call it that; I'll leave in Silva and Vidic for 10/11 as I think they might have exactly the same rating)

I think I'll come back and show a final overall top 20 with the adjusted ratings method, and actual ratings too.

The prominent players from 09/10 and 13/14 will be making the adjusted method list, so I'll leave them out the other one (the cut-off looks to be 6.89 and many players from both those seasons got above that, and the top places in the list would get monopolised by players from those seasons - the variance above average for the 13/14 top ratings calculation was not as much as 0.2 sorry, but still it's comfortably above other years and even above all of them if Suarez's rating was taken out while the top rating/s from those other years were not).

I'll put Phillipe Albert in both lists actually, and just say the requirement is 50% of games played and rated (Suarez in 2010/11, Cisse in 2011/12 and Van Persie in 2009/10 omitted - Van Persie's rating is just a notch above Fabregas's from that same year for reference - and Robben 2004/05 too but he wouldn't make either top 20 anyway).

Then I'll do some positional lists, and a top rated XI for both methods too (maybe with subs).

I'll just finish with a DBS Calcio ratings XI using both methods and leave it at that actually now!

Gregoriak has the Kicker ratings covered well, and the Spanish ones are posted and discussed on other threads and DBS Calcio only have recent ones. For Serie A (also some individual ones posted on other threads of course) I think maybe taking the 30 years between 77/78 and 06/07 could be interesting so I might look at those sometime, but as it's time consuming I might just post the adjusted ratings and actual ratings for the top 3 of each season I noted before, to see how they compare.

Adjusted ratings XI for the Premier League
    Ross Turnbull (08/09) 6.83 ; Warren Barton (94/95) 6.73, Sol Campbell (98/99) 6.90, Philippe Albert (95/96) 6.95, Leighton Baines (12/13) 6.74; Steven Gerrard (05/06) 7.12, Frank Lampard (09/10) 7.12; Cristiano Ronaldo (06/07) 7.06, Cesc Fabregas (09/10) 7.20, Robert Pires (01/02) 7.06; Luis Suarez (13/14) 7.21

Actual ratings XI for the Premier League
    Antti Niemi (02/03) 6.76; Warren Barton (94/95) 6.68, Sol Campbell (98/99) 6.81, Joleon Lescott (07/08) 6.84, Leighton Baines (12/13) 6.75; Steven Gerrard (05/06) 7.09, Patrick Vieira (02/03) 6.97; Cristiano Ronaldo (06/07) 7.09, Juan Mata (12/13) 7.09, Robert Pires (01/02) 7.05; Jamie Vardy (15/16) 7.03

Another way of doing it might have been to try and group a few seasons together and give them a combined average, on the assumption (but it's speculation really) there wouldn't be changes in method in that time. There'd still be outliers that would need accounting for or just dealing with separately - 09/10, possibly 96/97, and the differences between 14/15 and 13/14 might need close inspection for example too. Maybe that way Bergkamp 97/98 or Henry 03/04 or C.Ronaldo 07/08 might about get on par with Vardy's score for 15/16 for example, but it would be speculation and arguably a bit manipulated - like I say the way I did it makes it at least possible to get a better idea about how ratings compared to other generally high ones of the same season.

For what it's worth, my approximate (very arguably) top 40 might be this (on one hand my memories/impression would include domestic cup games I'm sure as well as automatic recognition of fuller. more complete seasons in terms of numbers of games played; on the other hand I'm doing it retrospectively and anyway didn't watch all, (or close to all even if I saw some highlights of most probably), games in full although in truth no one person did to make these ratings either even if now and in recent years it could be possible I guess for one or a few people in a panel to do so):
    1 - Thierry Henry - 2003/04
    2 - Dennis Bergkamp - 1997/98
    3 - Cristiano Ronaldo - 2007/08
    4 - Eric Cantona - 1993/94
    5 - Robert Pires - 2001/02
    6 - Thierry Henry - 2004/05
    7 - Gianfranco Zola - 1996/97
    8 - Jurgen Klinsmann - 1994/95
    9 - Thierry Henry - 2002/03

Maybe a bit premature to put in Hazard for this season, but I think I'd have him in for one of his seasons anyway and I'm indicating this looks like being his best IMO. If I used calander years things would change a bit here and there I guess, but not appropriate so much for league/cup format choices.

To make an XI and reserve XI I'd need some more choices: Petr Cech (04/05), Sol Campbell (98/99), Paul McGrath (92/93), Kolo Toure (03/04) or maybe one of Marcel Desailly's seasons, Dan Petrescu (95/96 - mostly for Chelsea part), Markus Babbel (00/01), Denis Irwin (93/94), Stuart Pearce (94/95).

Just as an extra note, Andrey Ashavin, if included for 2008/09 (with 12 rated games - one less than Suarez in 10/11) would have topped the list for that season with 7.24 as his actual rating. His inclusion would change the adjusted averages so his was 7.19, Gerrard's was 6.99 (moving down but not out the top 20 overall) and Turnbull's went below Niemi 02/03 too so that Niemi would be in the overall DBS XI either way (but the actual ratings one due to the 60% appearances rule - him being a bit over and Turnbull a little bit under).

Both those XI's did turn out pretty similar, when excluding 09/10 and 13/14 from consideration for the the actual ratings XI anyway. But those that made the adjusted ratings XI from those seasons might reasonably be assumed to be making the other one too if my adjustments/conversions reflect anything close to what ratings they'd have got in another year (Fabregas, Lampard, Suarez all making it comfortably in the adjusted ratings XI). If Niemi was deemed probably choice either way, then it would again come down to whether Phillipe Albert's 20 rated appearances in 1995/96 are seen as enough (his average rating gets him in comfortably either way). The adjustments did cause some changes in the top 20s anyway as you can see, but it's also evident that the addition or removal of one high performer (such as those half-season examples) can change the calculations/adjustments a noticeable amount - I do still think it's clear that different rating methods and publications were used in some years though anyway.

On reflection I thought it was right and consistent to just go back and add Arshavin into the 2008/09 list (as an attacker although it's about as debateable a case as there has been between attacker and midfielder possibly, among the top rated players). 12 games is comparable to other 'half season' cases included like this, and although it's easier/more likely to get a high average with less games, it helps indicate what sort of ratings could get handed out over a reasonable stretch of games that season (and puts the 'standard' level with 07/08 which perhaps seems logical too as it happens - it's even possible that in 08/09 the ratings began to get more generous ahead of 09/10 when there seems a combination of a number of players meriting consistently high ratings compared to surrounding seasons and a very generous approach to high ratings as shown/discussed).

    2008/09

Andrey Arshavin (7.24, 7.19) - top rated attacker
Steven Gerrard (7.04, 6.99) - top rated midfielder
    Steven Pienaar (6.82, 6.77) - 2nd rated midfielder
Ross Turnbull (6.82, 6.77) - top rated GK
    Mikel Arteta (6.76, 6.71)
    Wayne Rooney (6.73, 6.68) - 2nd rated attacker
    Fernando Torres (6.70, 6.65)
    Yossi Benayoun (6.70, 6.65)
    Robin van Persie (6.61, 6.56)
    Cesc Fabregas (6.61, 6.56)
    Frank Lampard (6.61, 6.56)
Brede Hangeland (6.61, 6.56) - top rated defender
    Martin Laursen (6.56, 6.51) - 2nd rated defender
    Ashley Young (6.56, 6.51)
    Stephen Ireland (6.56, 6.51)
    Phil Jagielka (6.56, 6.51)
