beIN's future could be as a primarily streaming outlet. Upping their own platform and app would help. But they could keep selling to Fubo, Sling, etc. They'd want to get back on DTV Now though.
Sad news. Streaming wise, they were awesome. 9-10 hours of commercial free coverage of the premier 5’s and premier mandatories. Tennis channel will never do this for free. To be fair, the majority of their live streaming is awesome: full MotoGP coverage, full MotoAmerica coverage, and overflow Spanish, French and Turkish league matches.
Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. This is a thread where people apparently love to bash beIN and never give them any credit. Didn't you get the memo?
beIN is good for some things, but it's mostly a very flawed network. Strange programming choices, streaming being an enormous pain in the ass and not working half the time, plus no on demand streaming available, and using extremely inadequate commentators when the perfectly fine world feed was available were some of the biggest complaints, and these are very valid complaints. Something they did well was pick up the CONCACAF US away qualifiers. Outside of the commentary, they do well with the CONMEBOL qualifiers and the Copa America. Not everything they do is bad, but I'm not giving them a pass on things they should do better with after this many years.
They've skimped on talent, streaming infrastructure, and executives. They've not gotten better since going to air. ******** them tbh.
I did see that Tennis Channel acquired the WTA tournaments in 2019, but when the bein-WTA agreement was announced in 2018, it was stated to be for five years. What happened?
Never mind.... I came upon a NY Times article that rxplained what happened. Main points for those interested: WTA remains on beIN outside the USA (where they have more channels to provide exposure) but were not happy with USA TV coverage. WTA took back the US rights by mutual agreement, which were then bid on by ESPN and Amazon, as well as winner Tennis Channel, but they went with TC because the other two bidders would be primarily streaming. They were promised equal coverage with the men's tour as part of the deal.
This is why literally every Serie A fan I know is happy that ESPN snapped-up the rights. Hope La Liga takes the same path one day.
Speaking of looking amateurish, if you are going to post people's tweet at the bottom of the screen during your highlight shows then maybe you should fact-check them first. Not doing so is a really good way to spread misinformation, assuming anyone is watching.
To be fair I assume all tweets and social media are opinions and crazy fake news anyway. That is why it is social media.
There's a difference between sharing opinions (even if they're a bit silly) versus blindly sharing data on a certain club's goal drought that is off by nearly a factor of 2, imo.
Was it supposed to be a joke? Sometime the fans will make jokes about opposing teams that are somewhat exaggerated but usually it's obvious.
Some social media comes from research and can be useful information that is not available outside social media. Some social media is wrong, but not all social media is inaccurate or worthless. My tweets about rare events in sports at twitter.com/EvanJ3535 aren't worthless. Yes. For example, a newspaper editorial would never say there have been 100 presidents because that's false, not an opinion.
I could be wrong here (so please correct me if needed,) but I was under the impression BeIn outbid the major US sports networks for rights to the the last cycles away U.S. qualifiers. Assumming the U.S. networks did bid, how is Bein winning them a good thing? Most people aren't going to pay just to get these., and it forces people to search around for shoddy and unreliable streams, or call around for a local sports bar that has BeIn and is willing to show it. Again, assumming our domestic networks attempted to pick up the rights, having BeIn out of the equation is a good thing. They were an annoyance.
So to clarify, were our domestic networks also competing to get these also? Or does the fact they were PPV and closed circuit mean they werent? (sorry, just trying to learn here.)
