There's a BBC TV program entitled 'United' about the side and the Munich air crash.

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b010tb6z

    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1777034/

Should be interesting for any football fans. I'm sure some kind soul will provide a d/l of it at some point for those outside the UK or you can maybe find it on BBC America or whatever.

edit: I've since read that the Busby family aren't happy with the film but I'm not clear whether it's just paper talk, trying to stir up the sh1t like they normally do about football.

I believe, from what I've read, that it focuses mainly on Jimmy Murphy and Bobby Charlton and the aftermath of the crash upto the 58 cup final. It does have scenes of the crash and Harry Gregg's heroism on the day. It's had good reviews from those who've seen previews.

Yeah, that's the article I read.

Like I say, it's sometimes difficult to tell, with the British red-tops, whether something's true or not or, if it is, whether it's as bas as they say. Nothing's ever 'unfortunate' or 'a shame'. It's always a 'catastrophe' or a 'disaster'. People never feel something, on balance, maybe could have been better handled... they're always 'furious' or, as in this case, 'outraged'.

So I'll wait to see it before making up my own mind I think.

Of course, it has to be said that the fella who helped the BBC writer and producer with the story was Busby's assistant as Busby, (not unreasonably), was not available on account of being dead and all. Under those circumstances it's maybe understandable that the story is from his perspective.

As for some of the stuff, (such as the idea that Busby 'wouldn't have talked to someone like that'),... well, he was a top, top manager who came from a poor Scottish mining family. I doubt he was a shy, delicate, retiring wall-flower type of person.

    Anyway, we'll see.

Edit: BTW, to see the quality of the journalism in the British rags... sorry, 'meeja', a link on the right has...

John Cross is just quite pissed off that Arsenal aren't doing too well at the moment. Apparently a Mirror journalist. Actually an Arsenal journalist for the Mirror. I wonder why he doesn't do articles on Denilson? Or Abou Diaby? Ha.

Don't know the name of the actor playing Sir Matt Busby but he seems to be channeling 007. :D

Just watched this, it was incredible to watch. Really emotional, but the acting was fantastic. I recommend everyone to give it a watch. You can find it on the BBC iPlayer. For those outside the UK, i'm sure it will be on the internet soon.

Really focused on Jimmy Murphy, and how he tried to move the club on.

I've recorded it but only caught the last 10 mins as it was transmitted.

One thing that struck me straight away though... for our foreign, (including US viewers), might be a good idea to watch it with subtitles turned on, more so for the geordies than the jocks. :D

Dougray Scott... and it's funny you should mention that...

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dougray_Scott#Career

After the release of The World Is Not Enough (1999), Scott was a frontrunner to replace Pierce Brosnan as James Bond.[5] Brosnan's contract was for three films with an optional fourth. Ultimately, Brosnan's option was picked up. After its release, Scott was once again widely believed to be a leading candidate to take on the role. Despite the numerous reports that EON Productions was leaning towards naming Scott as the new Bond in the 007 adventure Casino Royale, the famous role eventually went to Daniel Craig.

    Decent actor, actually.
I'll let you know what I think when I've seen it but, as you say, the little bit I saw seemed to be focussed on Murphy and an incredibly young Saint Bobby of Charlton, the latter, in particular, being no bad thing as he's a top, TOP bloke IMO.

Almost forgot, there's ANOTHER prog about Charlton, (no bad thing :)), on the 'auntie beeb'...

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b010tb71

Documentary looking back at the remarkable career of footballer Sir Bobby Charlton.

Sir Bobby was a key member of the England team that won the World Cup on home soil in 1966 and part of a Manchester United team touched by success and tragedy in equal measure.

Charlton survived the Munich Air disaster in 1958 which killed several of his teammates dubbed the 'Busby Babes'. He became a crucial figure in the club's resurgence, winning two league titles and the European Cup against Benfica in 1968. Renowned for his attacking instincts and ferocious long-range shot, he is still the record goalscorer for England and Manchester United.

He received a knighthood in 1994 and was awarded the prestigious BBC Sports Personality of the Year Lifetime Achievement Award in 2008. A fiercely proud Englishman, Charlton helped to promote London's successful bid for the 2012 Olympic Games, plus bids for the FIFA World Cup and Manchester's hosting of the 2002 Commonwealth Games. He remains a pivotal figure at Manchester United as an ambassador, club director and close confidante of manager Sir Alex Ferguson.

The programme features incredible archive from Sir Bobby's life in football, plus poignant contributions on the Munich crash from survivors including Sir Bobby himself. We also hear from some of the biggest names in world football, such as Franz Beckenauer, Eusebio, David Beckham, Sir Alex Ferguson, Sir Geoff Hurst, Harry Greig, Gordon Banks, Ryan Giggs, Gary Lineker and Bobby's brother Jack Charlton.

For those of a certain age such as my dad, 'young' Charlton, (as he still calls him), is a chip off the old block, even though the 'block' in question was actually his uncle, (on his mothers side IIRC), Jackie Milburn or, 'wor' Jackie, as the phrase has it.

Jack Charlton always calls his brother, (or did, anyway), 'our kid'.

    :D

The fella was one of the greatest strikers of a ball I've ever seen.

I just watched United and cried my eyes out. It was so heartwarming, and sad. At the end when Jeremey sees the babes in the tunnel, I just started crying....Duncan, the lads.

Jeremy really does not recieve enough recognition for his efforts in the aftermath of the disaster.

I thought it was really well done and hopes that it will be more widely available, every United and football fan needs to see this.

Very emotional. I think they did a good job.

Does anyone know if Sir Bobby had input into this? Because a lot of it was from his perspective.
