Nobody should be “competing” with Robbery next year.

They need to be super subs.

    ITS TIME TO MOVE ON!

They should if they aren't playing well Ribery has shown to be a serviceable starter still, Robben too. Nothing is given

Given how Ribery has been playing recently, it's incredibly important to have him now, with Coman's injury. I hope Ribery can keep up this form until the end of the season.

Then, I have no idea who could be our target for summer transfer. Except for aging wingers, our squad is stacked, maybe a world class deep-lying midfielder is missing.

The main thing is I have no idea how Kovac wants Bayern to play.

Ribéry is indeed in prolific form, but I fear against Real Madrid it will become obvious that no matter how good he plays, his pace simply is no longer up to the level it used to be. Robben seems to have lost that extra edge as well. I really hope these will be the last two extensions of Robbéry. They are legends and deserve a heroes farewell, but it's time.

Regarding Kovac. If the rumours that he wants Emre Can at Bayern are true, my worst fear is that we will turn into Magath 2.0 under his tenure. But we shall see what his plans are for the squad. He certainly has never worked with a group as talented as ours before.

The attack vs Madrid will be hard no matter what. I just hope Robben and Ribery can really deliver some last drops. I'm more worried about the defense. We allowed too many space, and therefore counters vs Leverkusen (and vs other teams recently) to my liking. Madrid has their defensive problem too, but our playing style is always good for them.

I've said this for a few seasons now, but I think one of Bayern's biggest issues in late phase Europe is the lack of pace up top.

None of Ribery, Lewy or Mueller is quick. Post Peak Robben at least offers something if he is actually fit.

So the difficulty is Lewy gets marked out of the game, and Ribery has all the defenders in front of him - so Bayern ends up playing quite high to get midfielders and fullbacks forwards to try to play through the other team. So then you are very reliant on the excellence of Hummels and Boateng and Javi on the counter

Lewy should be so much more dangerous in these big games, but the team struggles to get behind the defence

Is pace really an issue. We had Costa and Coman.

It's not like we have our countering directly. We have always relied on the pace of moving the ball.

It matters in the context of elite players

Robbery both used to have the ability to go past people - now only Robben (marginally IMO) still has the ability to isolate the defender and turn the game.

Of course Coman was quick - but he was nowhere near the level of Robben, who is all all timer

Coman is also very young. He's got elite talent.

This was set to be his breakout season with how he was progressing under Jupp. It's a real shame that he was injured.

I think individually we don't have issue with wingers. Pace: check, dribbling: check, experience: check, passing: check, cut inside: checks.

The problem is for each individual player he misses either of them. There is no more a single player with a combination of all these qualities.

Now I like what Coman is showing this season, and I do not want to lose Coman because Kovac doesn't know how to use him.

Which is the difficulty in replacing an All Time player like Robben

Maybe the answer is more going to be Kimmich who has shown great ability to get behind the defence for cut backs

The other thing is our best winger has no pace, but 15 goals and 13 assist

Mueller doesn't need pace to be WC.

So this game ended up being the perfect illustration

Lewa gets marked out of the game and Bayern struggle to generate clear chances for him.

Ribery did play well but with 3 guys on him.

It's too easy to contain Bayern's midfield by packing central areas.

Jupp seems to recognise this with lots of long balls forwards to generate second balls

I think Bayern created enough chances so we could say they were unlucky not to draw (2.5 XG)

But I don’t think they played well

So does Robben start on Tuesday? I’m not sure there’s much choice.

I do hope that the FO has finally realized we cannot count on Robbery next season. They either step aside and accept sub/mentor roles or they move on, like Iniesta.

So obviously not the best result and Real seem to be weaker than previous years but nevertheless a lot to be encouraged about in Europe with a fairly settled core side?

IMO if Bayern can recruit a young elite left winger, you'd be back to near your best

Interesting rumor, but I think the sources could be suspect.

I think we should let Lewandowski go. It's no point to keep such a drama queen, who no longer 100% committed to the club, plus we can get a great amount of cash if we do it now.

A new coach coming is also a chance for changing. With such performances e.g. during the CL semi-final, we can find other strikers who won't do worse. He's beasting mostly in the Bundesliga, but again we don't need a world class striker to win it.

Who would we go after and where would Lewy go?

Lewy wants to win the CL, there are not very many options that can do it. Since 2010 Real, Barca Chelsea and us have won.

Real interest is supposedly not there but that could change as Zidane is now out.

Bayern wants to win the CL too. To win they will need a goal scorerer and there arent very many better than Lewy.

We may be stuck together. Which is alright. The season was a disapoinment and thats why things are a little shaky. Everyone including the media knows. We have the World Cup to distract everyone and cool things down
