Bayern München v The Arsenal UEFA Champions League Wednesday, 15 February 2017 Allianz Arena KO: 1945 CET/1445 EST US TV: FS1 The fight for Europe begins anew. Let's have it.
"Mia San Arsenal"... I gather it that means We Are Arsenal. But what language is it???? As for the game, I could probably manufacture some "strange optimism" too, but I think I'm going to just go into it hoping and supporting. And see what happens. Que sera sera.
It's...sort of German. It's a play on Bayern's fan-created "mia san mia" motto. At the risk of being corrected by one of our German-speaking non-Arsenal regular commenters, it's a corruption of "wir sind wir" (meaning "we are who we are") that's peculiar to Bavaria. When that story emerged about Özil wanting a transfer to Bayern, he responded with #MiaSanArsenal, and some enterprising soul made that lovely banner in tribute.
Make that 2-1 and we might just have a little chance in the return leg. Personally I'm hoping for a spirited draw.
Imma put a fiver on Bayern winning 3 nil. If we win I'll be stoked. If we lose, I'll be chill with some bills (I'll be pissed who am I kidding).
Been watching Bayern last few games Actually remind of us... tons of possession but lack of prowess in final third Big difference - they have Lewandowski I have Bayern winning 2-1 as well
The strategy is simple- keep them from scoring, try to get one for ourselves. I'd be thrilled with 1-1.
Oh, indeed. Guess I meant that I am expecting worse than that and that 1-1 would probably feel about as good (and is as likely as) 1-3.
Haven't seen Bayern play this year so no idea what to expect other than one thing--AW will be out-coached by them. We simply need to go in there and kill the game, break play up and try to nick a goal on the counter. We don't have the midfield to dominate this team so play to strength...pace. Alexis up top, ozil behind and essentially four in deep midfield--wellbeck/iwobi, ox/Theo, elneny, xhaka will do.
good luck. We're not firing on all cylinders (though I doubt we could be as bad as barca yesterday), but it doesn't seem like Arsenal are either. Let's see if both teams can lift their game up and produce a spectacle.
