Battery head to Atlanta on first road test

    Audio webcast at 7:30 pm

Also on local radio 1450 AM

Battery open up the Silverbacks new stadium tomorrow night.

Charleston looks to be with out Huddock (knee) and Gores (leg) along with Daley and Crawford both out on international duty.

Hopefully the team playes a little more inspired this week than they did last week. Great keeping a clean sheet and all but a couple goals would be nice.

Still no word if the lights are up yet in the new stadium and Im hoping the internet feed will be up but the press box is reported a couple weeks away still. Im sure there will be a few glitches but its to be expected with a new facility without a soft opening of any kind.

If anyone makes the trip I would love to hear a report of how the stadium is coming.

ATL put in field turf so it will be a different surface than Blackbaud plus it is the Boyz first match on the road. Still I think they can get it done. I'm going with a 2-0 win to the Battery, Lazo with a scortcher from outside the box and Hollingworth gets a poacher goal ala Paul Conway in his prime.

Definitely hoping for a more active and passionate display tonight. I'm sure ATL will be fired up, and this should get our guys going, too. It'd be priceless to beat them on opening night of their new stadium!!

Charleston pulled one back toward the end but go down 3-2 in ATL's new home.

sounded like a much more exciting match than the one last week.

We play ATL twice more the end of this month but well have Dusty back in goal and Daley and Crawford back from international duty.

congrats to ATL on opening there new digs tonight, (wish would could ahve spoiled the party though)

I figured that Daley and Crawford's absence hurt tonight, although judging from Daley's own goal earlier in the day, maybe that absence helped you guys.

2nd Battery goal was BS, came on a free kick, ref blew for a sub then blew his whistle again allowing your guy to take the kick, then allowed the goal.

I'd say it hurt not having Daley and Crawford, but not enough to make an excuse for losing. After the last three matches I'm afraid we may have some deeper problems....can't quite figure exactly what it is b/c talent wise this team is head and shoulders over last year, but things have been quite unimpressive lately. We started well for about 2 games, then things turned sour....

I must say that last night must have been tough for you guys. After the game one of the 'Backs said that they saw this game as a win or the season was over already.

Or maybe that PR loss just affected the psyche?

this is only a theroy but I wonder if the first two matches most they guys were still fighting for a starting postion and now they see their role as somewhat permenant and have become a little more casual?

and are we still playing a 4-5-1 or we back to a 4-4-2? the 4-5-1 was smoking the first couple matches.

We have a tough stretch ahead of us.

Seattle on Thursday then two matches in PR on Sat and Sun.

We need the win over Seattle and I would love to see one win over PR but its going to be tough. I think realistically we can get out of their with a pair of draws,

Seattle has been bleeding in goal all season and I could see us getting a few especially if Daley is back firing on all cylinders. that would give the boyz some good momentum going into the weekend matches.

No love loss with PR especially after the last match and their fans are going to be all over them. I feel the boys can do it with the right motavation.

that said we still have games in hand and the season is still early so Im not too worried. alot can still happen

Battery played 4-4-2 Sat night. Ben and Gavin did some good work together, but they were taken down if they got within 10 yards of the box. They had to be black and blue. Gavin had a strong left footed shot that missed the far post by 6 inches. He gave one to Ben in the box, but all Ben could do was toe poke it before he got creamed. Wide right by 2 inches. Ben and Armstrong had a good give and go in the box. Armstrong got good wood on it, but GK was able to stop it.

The Battery has had 44 shots in the last three games. Several of them were quality scoring opportunities, but most I could have stopped or were wide or high. I don't have to tell you that the quality shots have yielded 2 goals. I say keep pulling the trigger and putting on the pressure. I am very surprised that we did not come out of Atlanta with a tie. Keith had one helluva save if I remember correctly. I think he got an ovation from their announcer. They scored on their other 3 chances. We missed at least 3 and maybe more quality chances. I just want the boys to stay aggressive and not start thinking about making a mistake. A win Thurs. night will put us in the thick of it.
