Time to get a catchup in Bahrain!

    • 4 Clubs in with a relalistic chance of claiming the league title. Defending champions Al Muharraq, Riffa Club, Al Ahli and Busaiteen.
    • Defending AFC Cup champions Al Muharraq are making their progress difficult in the Group stages due to 3 draws out of 3
    • Busaiteen on the other hand are sitting top and looking comfortable.

We have come down to one game left in the championship, to be played on the 28th.

    Al Ahli Vs Muharraq

It's been a long, long season, but finally the winner of this match takes the championship, a draw and Riffa Club will win the league.

Al Muharraq claimed their 31st domestic championship today, and there 4th in a row after winning the deciding match of the season.

Al Muharraq will once again qualify for the AFC Cup.

just something i noticed when i checked some scores around the world today, the 2-1 was scored in 102nd minute of the game (after penalty?) ... more than suspicious for me, in such deciding game :D

I didn't realise that, maybe that's the reason behind their 31 championships to date??

In other news, Al Hala beat Al Hadd in the end of season playoff match to determine which team would make the 10th spot in next years 10 team Premier League.

Full clubs for next years top flight:

    Al Muharraq
    Bahrain Riffa Club
    Al Ahli
    East Riffa
    Busaiteen
    Al Najma
    Manama
    Al Shabab
    Malkiya
    Al Hala

The FA had a good shake up this year, possibly only Bahrain Club and Al Ittihad miss the cut, but if it was a 10 team league, they would have found the going tough anyway.

Busaiteen started the season well and were expected to challenge, but feel a long way short in the final weeks.

I don't think the season schedule helped teams, as some teams played maybe once or twice a week on some occasions, and then went missing from action for 3 weeks.

It was an interesting last week, with three teams able to win the championship, but generally, it felt to myself that it went on two long. Al Muharraq played about 5 or 6 of their 18 games in the last 2/3 weeks and the previous 14 or whatever over 7 months.

Things are looking up, but improvements must be made.

I've noticed today that the game went on for so long due to an injury to the ref which halted the game for 14 minutes - hence the late late goal.

    Ok, lets refresh this beast:

    Bahraini Classification League

We are currently into the 5th round of the 18 round 2009-10 season.

Bahrain Riffa Club and Al Muharraq are once again setting the pace at the top of the standings.

This season, the league was re-structured to feature 10 teams, playing each other twice. This has changed from last season when their was 19 teams, each team played each other once. You can do the math and notice that 9 teams didn't make the cut for this year.

Busaiteen who featured in the last edition of the AFC Cup are currently struggling at the bottom of the league. Recently, they have been an up and coming team that has run the likes of Al Muharraq close, but just haven't had the edge when it matters.

The year, the top team should enter the AFC Cup.

The top two will enter the Gulf Club Championship

The top four make the cut off for the end of season Bahraini Crown Prince Cup.

Things may well change, but this is how it's always been set out for the last few seasons.

Al Muharraq is the Kingdom's most succesful club with 66 trophies in their cabinet. Their closet rivals are Bahrain Riffa Club with 20 trophies, you can see the vast difference.

    Gulf Club Championship

Al Muharraq and Bahrain Riffa Club still both have a chance of progressing to the semi-final stages, but both must win their final games, to be played in early December to stand a chance of progressing.

Normally late Sept/ early Oct, but with Gulf Cup being played in October/November aswell, we could see it moved a few weeks earlier.

Unless you play for Al Muharraq you don't get anything.

The domestic league is poor in general. It would be pointless for most teams to actually pay any players because they never get anywhere.
