Unbelievable! ! No disrespect to Mexican fans but I cant believe we won!! Is this what Brasil felt in Japan against Germany? ?
Congrats to Honduras, great job! For all the trash they always say about us centralamericans. I hope you can make it to Brazil.
Yeah, I wouldn't call it "competitive". Just that the traditional giant in the region has been massively confused this Hex.
Mexico`s in 5th no team is eliminated yet Honduras is quality Panama is definitely quality......how is it not competitive?
So if all teams tie all their games it's not competitive? Lot of ties and 1 goal wins, no blowouts. Even Jamaica got road points. It's competitive.
Well if the points spread between teams is zero, (whether it's all draws or all home-and-away win/loss pairs,) then obviously it's competitive. X-D I just use the 1-2 PPG as a rule of thumb since draws are usually uncommon, meaning teams should be getting closer to 1.5 PPG on average. The GD argument definitely a good point, though.
If a third of the games are draws (in general, not in any specific competition) and you want a range of 1, the range should be 5/6 to 1 5/6 points per game (0.83 to 1.83). This Hexagonal has had 10 draws, 7 games decided by 1, and 7 games decided by 2. Counting draws as 0, that's an average margin of victory of 0.875. The Hexagonal in qualifying for World Cup 2010 had only 5 draws, and 6 games were decided by 3 or more. The average margin of victory was 1.47.
I don't know to call it competitive... But this is a far better Hex than the last one. In 2009 there were six games in which a team made a 3+ goal margin against their rivals (five in 2005, four in 2001, six in 1997) we haven't seen that yet in this one.
This Hex is like any other Hex. Win all our home games. Qualify with a few games to spare. I mean for the minnows it's been competitive, but for the region's powerhouses of the US and Costa Rica, just an average Hex .
USA's a CONCACAF giant, they're just historically smaller than Mexico. Honestly this is not an average Hex to Costa Rica, we are more used to suffer (2005, 2009, 1997). In fact, this has been the easiest Hex for us, just behind of the 2001 one.
