Austria 1 - 1 Sweden I know this is merely the first match of qualifying, but with Russia and Sweden in the group, I think Austria will end up regretting that they didn't take three points at home. The two dropped points could be decisive. Russia and Montenegro won their home matches today. Liechtenstein didn't help the matter by conceding two own goals and a penalty in a 4-0 loss in Russia.
Yes, but I think that Russia will rue that they only scored 4 goals. This is going to be a much more competitive group than people think.
I was hoping for more but 1 point keeps Sweden close. Write-up in euro.com: http://www.uefa.com/uefaeuro/qualif...ex.html#ibrahimovic+pleased+with+sweden+point

Austria has a second great day -advancing to the top of the group table - beating Montenegro at home 2-1 as Russia was held at home 1-1 by Moldova. The whole group was reshuffled today with Austria, Sweden and Moldova moving up, and Russia, Montenegro and Liechtenstein slipping. A great day for Austria and Liechtenstein has they pick up well deserved 3 points. 15 November 2014 Austria has an even better 4th game day beating Russia, 1-0 at home. See: http://www.uefa.com/uefaeuro/qualifiers/season=2016/matches/round=2000446/match=2013905/index.html The loss dropped Russia into 3rd and a tie with Montenegro. Austria and Sweden won easily at Liechtenstein and Moldova. Montenegro - Russia was abandoned because of home side crowd issues. I suspect a 3-0 forfeit forthcoming, but should wait for uefa to announce. http://www.uefa.com/uefaeuro/qualifiers/season=2016/matches/round=2000446/match=2013924/index.html Group G Results: 27 March 2015 Liechtenstein 0-5 Austria Russia Moldova 0-2 Sweden Montenegro 0-0 Russia (abandoned) [ Group G Teams P W D L F A +/- Pts 1 Austria 5 4 1 0 1 1 8 13 2 Sweden 5 2 3 0 1 1 4 9 3 Russia 4 1 2 1 4 0 3 5 4 Montenegro 4 1 2 1 2 0 1 5 5 Liechtenstein 5 1 1 3 0 4 -10 4 6 Moldova 5 0 1 4 0 2 -6 1
According to uefa.com: Update 8 April 2015 The UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body (CEDB) declared the match as forfeited. As a consequence, Montenegro were deemed to have lost the game 3-0. I was hoping for a replay in an empty stadium so Russia would have to work for the win and +3 goal differential. Russia fired their coach following the match. Austria still has to play in Sweden. But even if they lose that one, they should be in decent shape. Sweden's next game is in Russia, and if they drop points there, I think Austria should win the group. Austria's only other possible challenge will be in Montenegro. Home matches against Liechtenstein and Moldova should be easy affairs.

Very impressive run by Austria! Only dropped two points through eight matches so far, including two games each against Sweden and Russia. First time ever Austria qualified for Euro Championship other than as hosts!
