With the friendly against Denmark coming up on June 2. It made me think about how the socceroos usually go with an all european based squad for the friendlies played in europe, this wont be the case with this game, but if we couldnt pick any players australia or asia based, what would the squad look like? nearly all of the defenders who make the squads play in asia, how would you field a team? This is what i came up with

    GK SCHWARZER
    RB MCGOWEN
    CB WILLIAMS
    CB LOWRY
    LB ZULLO
    RM WILKSHIRE
    CM VALERI
    CM JEDINAK
    LM OAR
    CF CAHILL
    ST HOLMAN

I didnt include kisnorbo due to injury or troisi cause he doesnt have a club at the moment

    ------------Federici
    Wilkshire--Williams---Lowry---Zullo
    --------Herd----Valeri
    ---------- -Sarota
    ---Holman---Cahill-----Troisi

(do it, Holger, you know it makes sense)

(yeah, wow, no other CB options apart from Shane Sheriff)

May be off topic but do you guys see Schwarzer lasting until 2014?

If not is Federici the guy?

Neill is only a short flight from the middle east. He'll be there. ;)

Federici is the guy, but Schwarzer is still gunning for 2014 and it looks like it's a matter of him losing form rather than anything Fed does.

Surely Troisi, Herd and Ruka have to make the squad. They've all gone well this season in some if the biggest leagues in the world.
This is what I'd go with:

    -------------Federici
    Wilkshire---Neill---Williams---Zullo
    -----------Herd----Valeri
    Rukavytsya---Holman-----Troisi
    --------------Cahill

I'd be tempted to play Jedi instead of Valeri if he were fit. I think Ruka would be good on the right, he plays there a bit for Hertha.

With Federici playing in the EPL next season he is certainly setting himself up to steal the spot. Schwarzer won't give it up easily though, and why should he? Despite his age he is still the best.

Interesting, as I thought Langerak might have nicked that 3rd spot off Coe.

Can someone also please steal those nude photos of Frank Lowy that Jade North has in his possession- you know- the ones that ensure that he gets picked in every Australian squad. ;)

At least he's selected some fullbacks this time.

Wonder who'll get dropped? You'd have to think Kewell and Archie would be well short of fitness.

I doubt they'll get dropped- they can still do an impact role off the bench even if not match fit.

I'd like to see this. After watching the 'roos in Tardistan against Saudi Arabia I would love to see Bresciano in a CAM role. Obviously he doesn't have the agility he used to, yet he has this unique ability that Jedi or Valeri lack: The ability to pass forward. Please don't start Kennedy Mr Holger!

    -----------Federici
    Williams---Neill---Spiranovic---Zullo
    -----------Herd----Bresciano
    Rukavytsya---Holman-----Troisi
    --------------Brosque

    No Troisi in the squad.

What I'd like to see if Kennedy isn't fit:

    --------------|Federici|
    Wilkshire--Williams--Spiranovic--Zullo
    ------------Herd-------Valeri
    ---Ruka--------Bresciano----Brosque
    ------------------Holman

Though I suspect our backline will be:

    ---------------|Schwarzer|
    Wilkshire---Neill---Spiranovic---Carney

We're actually looking at pinching one of your basketball guys. We've got Jones at Liverpool but he's not quite agile enough.

Not sure to to whom your referring (none of our basketball players would switch to the roos;)) but there is this semi-american: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caleb_Patterson-Sewell

He's actually doing quite well and should be in the Portuguese Liga next year.

One day I'd like to open the paper to the headline:

'AUSTRALIAN PLAYER UNDER AGE 23 MAKES REGULAR APPEARANCES FOR OVERSEAS CLUB, COUNTRY'

Swap Holman and Brosque. Neither is really a CF but Holman less so - he needs to be running aound to be effective and the CF needs to be able to be found easier.

I saw a lot of Brosque at CF, I rate Holman over him there because he's a lot more willing to stick with his futile assignments and won't get jaded as easily.

    Herd injured again?

Also, we are going to get slaughtered again if we play Bresc in a 4-4-2. Saudi game showed he can't put in the workrate there.
