Wow, I had missed Yukari Kinga coming back at Melbourne City! I am probably becoming blind. So, I have to ask: any chance that Yuki Nagasato can come back at Brisbane Roar?
thanks for the threat, though I would of named it something like another shrimp on the barbie, mate or bloody ripper 2019! my big wonder in the post Sam Kerr era will be if the 18 or so expats of usual non USWNT players outscore the entire Aussie contingent? After this match, it's 1-2 Western Sydney Wanderers vs. Adelaide United - 14 November 2019 - Women Soccerway oh, yeah, Wanderers arch nemesis(a certain BS poster) must be shakin in her boots as I just read that they did sign Lynn Williams! Now if she only shows up..........
in their first 2 games, Western Sydney has won more matches than all of last year...and look who they just signed up...no other than Williams & Hamilton's team mate, Denise O'Sullivan, guess we can called the NC Courage-light Western Sydney Wanderers vs. Newcastle Jets - 22 November 2019 - Women Soccerway I read that by some, Simone Charley is the fatest female player alive & as they say 'speed kills'. look who's head of the scoring column Summary - W-League - Australia - Results, fixtures, tables and news - Women Soccerway (Lechus@ looks like American soccer goes way deeper than you thought, lol) found these highlights of her two goals, from just a few hours ago, highlights from this thrilling game
sooner or later, American domination has to end!, but not this game Brisbane Roar vs. Western Sydney Wanderers - 28 November 2019 - Women Soccerway even the unkown yank on the Roar scores their only goal though there's plenty of Matildas on the squad
I noticed Western United doesn't have a W-League team. Is a women's team being planned by them for the future? Will Macarthur have a team when they enter the A-League next year? I'm just looking at wikipedia, and the A-League has a whole expansion section, but the W-League page does not.
Last year, it was said the W-League expansion was being put "on ice" - even though at least one of the new A-League teams was thinking of joining the W-Leauge - because they apparently thought that increasing the number of games played could cause NT players to *lose* playing time overall by no longer being about to do back-and-forths between the W-League and whatever other league of their choice. https://thewomensgame.com/news/expansion-plans-on-hold-for-w-league-516596 That said, times have changed: Guardian Australia recently revealed that there is a long-term plan (i.e. more than four years from now) to make every A-League team field a W-League team. No indication on which A-League teams will be starting W-League sides when, though. https://www.theguardian.com/footbal...ching-plans-for-independent-w-league-revealed (It sounds, though, that Macarthur FC was the A-League expansion interested in the W-League: https://www.smh.com.au/sport/soccer...-training-base-from-2021-20191028-p5350w.html ) Finally, next season will likely see more than 14 games, with a long-term goal of matching the A-Leauge's 30 games. Partnerships with other leagues are apparently in discussion to allow to W-League players to still go back and forth with other leagues despite the growing overlap in calandars.
Three 2-1 away wins and a 1-1 draw... There were three home wins and a draw in week 1, but ever since then it's been a league dominated by the away teams. Since that first week, there were two 1-0 home wins and that 1-1 draw, and the other nine games have been away wins. Weird. Also weird if only because you'd expect *some* variation: every teams that's had a bye has fewer points than every team that hasn't. It's theoretically possible for any team with just three games to still be in playoff position, but none are.
MC, BRI, and SFC all won this week, while CU and PG drew their game - two home wins of the three. WSW was on bye. Poor ADE still on the bottom of the table, though definitely showing some fight. Unless WSW or PG can put up a good streak, looks like this year will be pretty typical overall.
how the might have fallen...........last year's champs got crushed by Western Sydney. Besides being the Lyn Williams show, the 17 year old Cooney-Cross got a brace as well, plus a single from Amy Harrison. It's obvious that the three NC Courage stars have made a huge difference(since WS didn't even win a game all last season), but glad to see Amy Harrison is part of their success as well. years ago I pegged her to become the new superstar of Australia ala Sam Kerr. But two straight ACL's cut that prediction short, glad to see she's still playing & at 23 year old, hopefully she'll have a long career ahaed of her
I've mentioned in previous threads that the W-League is a weird league with how it sometimes plays out... This year, from week one you could fairly confidently say that WSW are the strongest team by some distance, but that has rarely played out in the standings. Despite going 3-0 through their first three games, they were never in 1st place. Week four, they finally dropped points with a draw, but then *did* nab the top spot in the ladder. Then they had a bye week and dropped back to *third*. In the two subsequent weeks, they've kept two clean sheets and scored NINE goals (including the 4-0 drubbing on my poor CU earlier today...) putting them back in first place - for the week at least. Wild stuff.
this is something I wish would happen more often; a club team(in this case the W Sydney) taking on an NT(China) this Sunday. Wanderers to face China in blockbuster friendly - FTBL | The home of football in Australia - The Women's Game - Australia's Home of Women's Sport News of course the Australian side is excited even though their forgetting one important thing, the only reason their looking so good these days; their 3 NC Courage players,
Confused why they did something like that. Why not against the Matildas? Shouldn't they go against the elite of the elite?
China is preparing for Olympics Qualifiers(maybe next month) & the Matildas aren't available, so next best thing is taking on an mostly Australian club. Both countries should be able to quality since its got 3 openings, after Japan gets a bye*for hosting) & North Korea withdrew. Personally I think the top 10 pro clubs of the world would get the better if pitted against the top 10 NT's for a friendly, but it be hard to say if W Sydney can , as it's only been together for 2 months & other than the 3 NC Courage/international players, don't have a single Matildas starter on their roster
Oh, not wanting to detract from WSW's achievement, that's a brilliant result (1-0 win, apparently). Think I was stuck on the idea that WNTs necessarily compete to a higher/richer level than clubs, which of course is faulty logic, especially nowadays. (Another game of that type last year, less evenly matched, was Israel v Chelsea in Petah Tikva, a 3-1 win to Chelsea)
Apparently the China win sapped WSW of their strength - and the wildfires probably aren't helping either - as they dropped a howler of a match against Brisbane, 0-4. Canberra have also lost two matches 0-4 since the 6th, one of them to now-cruising City who have outscored opponents 8-0 in three matches since the new year. WSW play Perth later today, but even with a win they'd be 6pts behind City. Blecch.
Talking about Melbourne City, does anyone know what happened to Yukari Kinga? She was a key-player for City in the first matches, but it's two match-days that she's not even on the bench. Of course it must be an injury, but I can't seem to find any news about it (I don't think there is an "Injury Report" section, of a "Disciplinary Report" section for that matter, on Aussie-W-League's website, or at least I didn't manage to locate it). Can anyone help me?
tells you how one or two players can dominate a game even at this supposedly, higher level. As shown in the lineups, in a game dominated by goals by the usual supects of unkown Americans, Williams & O'Sullivan were nowhere to be found Adelaide United vs. Western Sydney Wanderers - 25 January 2020 - Women Soccerway interesting, despite the global warming doomsayers that Australia has had it, Olympic qualifiers have moved to that country, cuz, you guessed it....warm weather!
O'Sullivan was on a guest contract and has already played the 7 permitted matches, while Williams is with the USWNT for Olympic qualification.
