Yesterday I only watched parts of the game on my iphone on twitter, so impossible to really see the play on the field, mostly just listening. But the number of cautions so early in a game with significant playoff implications had me very angry. I didn’t see the send-offs and didn’t know who said what to whom. I looked up the 4th official and didn’t recognize his name. Was that a newbie ref that maybe Almeyda, Wondo, etc were trying to denigrate or intimidate? Just wondering... I don’t know if I have the stomach to watch this game on DVR, esp in Spanish... Hard to watch the Quakes implode after giving it their all on the field
Candidly from what I've seen, recently, they all would have been. I am sorry, there is deliberate bias going on here. It's time to call it like it is, and the league has to step in and straighten it out. It's been obvious for years we get stuff called on us that others can do repeatedly and get away with. From obscenities, to walking off the field (anyone seen an opposing player get a card for that, I have seen two quakes players given yellow cards for walking off the field). Going back to the NYFC game, we don't get an advantage call with Ericsson at the top of the opponents box, NYFC gets one when their player is 70 yards from the goal. This affects the outcome of games, folks. We need better refereeing. I am in favor of outsourcing that to the refs from some other association (Mexico, El Salvador, Costa Rico, I don't care where, just somewhere where they understand the ebb and flow of the game). If Penso is one of America's best refs, we have a problem.
Which sports league or sport for that matter, in the world isn’t corrupted? Maybe boxers are still legitimate?
Quakes reddit thread entitled "Context is everything." When in the final minutes of a hard-fought, down-a-player, playoff-spot-critical game, your player Salinas is mugged at the sideline in the opposing final third, directly under the linesman’s nose, and that blatantly-missed call leads to a throw-in by the opposing team which leads to a tie-breaking goal...well ya, it’s a little hard to stay calm. https://www.reddit.com/r/SJEarthquakes/comments/d7t4f1/context_is_everything/ Lots more over there that makes the discussion here seem tame.
Quakes lost a potential 2020 season ticket holder because of the refs. I've seen the Quakes go up and down and no matter the standings, still enjoy getting out and watching them play. But that's changed over the past couple of months. I'm annoyed about things which are not under the players' and coach's control. I'm increasingly annoyed at the incompetence of PRO throughout the league, and at the Quake's ownership for not taking a stand . . . https://www.reddit.com/r/SJEarthquakes/comments/d7x6b2/changed_my_mind_about_tickets_2020/
bold bet Don, I admire you for making it and it's remarkable that it was even possible this late in the season. look forward to hanging out next year in those sweet Don G seats.
It will get *** out if I post it here, but the most common four-letter word followed by "you" -- a phrase that's become so commonplace it's almost, but not quite, been downgraded to a mere curse.
Yeah, it's hard to believe Wondo said anything more extreme than coaches and players say to the refs from the sideline every game in MLS history. Officials need to keep their cool, just like players.
I saw Wayne Rooney tell the ref to F-off a few weeks back and I believe it was after he got a yellow but I don't think he got a red. At least not that time...
We may have shot ourselves in the foot with Espinoza's deserved second yellow, but Penso & Co shot us in the head execution style with the salinas sidelineno call and almeyda/wondo reds.
#Quakes74’s three matches vs. ATL:2017: Led 1-0, forced to play 60+ minutes with 10 men. Lost 4-2.2018: Led 3-1, video review reverses SJ’s fourth goal to ATL penalty. Lost 4-3.2019: Tied 1-1, forced to play 60+ minutes with 10 men. Lost 3-1.— Jake Pisani (@JPisani28) September 21, 2019
Espinoza’s red was totally warranted. But that’s not what we’re arguing here. PLUS! During the game one of ATL’s players manhandles Salinas by the back of the neck. Nothing happened. But a coach and a player can get sent off without verbal warnings? Crosses the line. #NoEthics pic.twitter.com/YcAWTixYSA— Devon (@DevBo_8) September 21, 2019
So, they're human, and heckling doesn't bother them. A good-cross examiner would crucify Penso with that ammunition.
After this play I let my emotions get the best of me and I’m very remorseful for that... A P.S.A for everyone you can’t yell “you’re Fing cheating us” from the 2nd row of the bench. It’s not a yellow for dissent but a straight red. #lovethisteam #unity https://t.co/0ZdfKz8g9Q— Chris Wondolowski (@ChrisWondo) September 24, 2019 Just. Wow. I hope he didn't get a fine too...for speaking the truth!
Kudos to Wondo for providing the details of ejection that neither the ref, the league, nor any journalist has, to my knowledge. Clearly not deserving of a red card. And merely speaking the truth, as Tyf observers. By the way, no one would get away with doing that to Shea along the sideline in San Jose. Tyf would be over the boards in a split second pummeling the perpetrator with her purse.
Yeah, there is no way anyone gets away with treating any of our players like that at home. I don't carry a purse, but someone might get stabbed with a knitting needle.
