Old news to everyone but sheds light on what she wants to do after she hangs up her cleats.... Hamm to retire after Olympics
HECK NO!!! As much of a homer as I am....Mia needs to step away from the soccer field. Enough already. It's time for the vets to retire and let the next generation take over. I need to ask Huss if I can change my username from "FearM9" to "FearChalupa23" or sumpin' like that. Anyhoo.... It'll be interesting to see how visible Mia is in the next year or so. Will US Soccer and maybe WUSA (if that ever exists again) trot her out from time to time. Or will she quietly go about making babies? Will she put more energy towards reviving her foundation? Speaking of.... I think her and Fugly Nose should combine their two foundations into one...like call it the "9-5 Foundation" or whatever.
Here's a piece of advice- you really do not have to post everything that occurs to you...with the above quote being a case in point.
As much as it will suck (for this fan) not seeing her out there, I can't imagine not being happy for her. I wanna see her leave the game being the best. Opposing teams still fear her and she still sends waves of excitement through a stadium when she gets the ball. I think with Abby, Boxx, Tarpley, KATE! and Cat the team is in good hands.
I'll stick this here... Seems some bone head at the USOC is pushing for "100 medal in Athens". Its discussed in this article and they quote Mia on the subject. Winning not only thing at Olympics That's class.
Women soccer without Mia Hamm is like Romeo without Juliet or Fox Sports World without Max Bretos or Fries without ketchup or Hamm-Star w/out her brain.
I'm pretty sure the new group can handle it without her. Women's soccer will survive! Quite well too!
We have to think of the future. Mia needs to start "broadening the talent pool" for WC 2023 ASAP!!!!!! We need to start a collection for a "Viagra for Nomar" fund.
Of course the team will survive. Doesn't mean we can't be sad she's retiring. Can hardly wait for a year or two when the "revisionists" decide Abby's the greatest ever. Or HO (O'Reilly). Memories are very short unfortunately.
Memories are short, but legacies last. And Mia's legacy is fairly solid. Best of luck, Mia. We'll miss you.
We've been forgetting these girls, Abby, Boxx, Tarpley, Reddick, wagner, O'Reilly, parlow, Welsh, Chalupny, they're very young yet very talented, I think we'll be OK.
Here's a good one. Same stuff but said nicely. http://www.buffalonews.com/editorial/20040521/1023658.asp
Well I finally got my chain tool to work. Now time to put on a new chain onto my road bike. In the meantime.... From today's USA Today: Hamm comfortable with retirement decision By Scott Pitoniak Uhhhh Sobs....you got sumpin' on your nose...
I ruined one of the links! ------ From some paper up in Tacoma, WA: Mia's moving on DAVE BOLING; The News Tribune
I think the point was made, during last weekend's DH, that Hamm was retiring from international soccer and will still be playing in the WUSA. Or the revival thereof.
