What are the "usual" excuses if your team does not win the next asian cup? I will try and list the usual excuses made by the saudi press: 1- Luck... 2- Bad ref. 3- star X (who is usualy over his 30s) did not join the team. 4- The coach sent player X too late in the match. 5- Lack of consitration by the defense(notice that thay played great... but they some how slept half of the match). 6- we are in a team buidling stage (new one to be announced after the next Asian Cup). The press has a habit of not saying that the other asain team was actually better.
what about "we are obviously the better team, the fact that we lost 3-0 just shows how lucky the other team is" or as one of my friends once said "We were robbed to lose 2-1, we deserved to win the game." He said this after the US lost to Brazil U-23 team.......... A game where the Brazilian side dominated the full side. I also love the B-, C+, A team rankings, makes me think these people only give grade to team by the player names and not how well the team itself played as a unit. if Japan loses it will be because the prospect of winning everygame 5-0 was so boring we decided to let the other team have a chance at the title.
We weren't robbed. We got beat. But...if you say that that side we had out there was our "full side", you are an imbecile. Carry on now.
Easy there. That was the US's "full side", as in the US fielded their full senior side, as opposed to the U-23 or U-21.
B team? I dont think we ever had that one in saudi. As for we were robbed and such it goes under the ref. and luck kind of excuses.
oh man... korea vs usa during the WC. Many US fans think they actually deserved to win because "they scored first." Freak. I dont even know if they even watched the game. alright... maybe i am coming up with a dumb excuse as well... we may have tied, but korea clearly played better in that game. Luck was with USA.
That's Italian. Usually the rest of Europe has a far more positive attitude. The Italians always blame everything except themselves. It's nothing new, it's been going on forever.
I think that's true for almost every country and every sport. If the press has followed a team closely long enough, they'll believe that the team will win as long as they play to their abilities. So they'll talk in terms of what they have to do to win, and the opposition gets overlooked.
I hear a lot of this excuse from our own players! Especially when traveling M.E. only to lose to KSA.
1. some players broke their curfew the night before. thus didn't get "enough" sleep. 2. sex was banned by the coach.
Lose by 1 goal: "Ref was against us" Lose by 2 goals: "That was our 'B' team, tourney is meaningless" Lose by 3 goals: "Coach sucks, he picked the wrong players, doesn't understand strategy" Lose by 4 goals: "FIFA, AFC was plotting against us" Lose by 5 goals: Other team was just better, we suck" (I've never heard that one used)
"Other team was just better, we suck" South Korea on that fateful day against Hiddink's Holland... France 98
Here is a good excuse that I have heard in the past: "Soccer is not the favorite sport in my country [though we have been playing it for almost a century]"
Sometimes even well before the actual cup starts. All in all I think we can come to a conclusion that most of the time, the reactions to failuer are very supportive of the natioanl teams. Unless the guys realy spoil it for them selfs (Saudi in WC2002).
