.... there is Blind and Rojo. even if people don't like them. that said i'd prefer Blind settle in one spot. preferably midfield
We are two defenders short, it doesnt really matter where you want to slot the likes of Rojo. We have 6 first team defenders plus kids. Given that several of that six are injury prone and quite a few are not MUQ we should have started the season with 8 plus kids. Its just another mistake LVG made with the squad this season. We need to buy a starting CB and a FB.
This is something I have banged on about for years particularly given our annual defensive injury crises. Yet in every single transfer window you have the usual faces saying we are fine, we have cover, it won't happen again this year... Under LvG our defensive in/outs are as follows: In: Shaw, Rojo, Darmian Out: Ferdinand, Vidic, Evra, Evans, Rafael, Buttner, Keane, Vermijl, Janko, Thorpe, James This excludes loaning youth like Blackett out. Is there any surprise that when our annual defensive injury crisis hit we were forced to rely on Blind, Young and Valencia? Yet again we are suffering from a situation our ignorant management has created. As this is his thread I have no problem with Young being in the rotation as cover down both flanks, including defensive, and it is why I advocated keeping him. However there is a big difference between providing cover and being a starter. It shows.
Watford, WBA, Palace and Swansea are the Prem clubs who are said to be interested in AY, as he's reportedly asked to go out on loan.
He's asked to be loaned and not sold because then he doesn't have to negotiate new wages. By going on loan, he gets to pay while still having the two clubs pay his massively inflated wages. Tell him if he wants to play, then we'll sell him and he can ******** off. He doesn't get his cake and eat it too.
I'm eager to hear if Jose will address this in his next press conference, so we can confirm the veracity of that report. Going out on loan might be what AY is looking for, in hopes of getting his full salary, but it's also unlikely that the clubs mentioned above are ready/willing to solely fork out the amount of his weekly paycheck. And thus any club that would take him on board would probably looking to negotiate an agreement with United to split the payments, which is not necessarily guaranteed either. In some relatively slow news days, it could be another instance where the press cooks up a story based on loose facts that would make it plausible.
Just anything but a loan. This isn't some young player who may be needed back here. He is a nice squaddie to have around, but his time as a starter at this club was gone years ago and if regular playing time is his desire, we can easily sell him to any of those listed teams at a price they can afford. We were happy with 10 mill from China - an EPL team can stump that up for "FORMER ENGLAND AND MANCHESTER UNITED WINGER" Ashley Young, easy. I'd prefer he stays. He's somewhat decent cover at the back position.
Selling him (if he's seeking playing time now) is the only realistic option indeed, as loaning him simply does not make sense at all from the club's point of view. That being said, as the backup of the backups in 4 different positions, United would really be hard pressed to find a better option, at least for now. At the end of the season, when it can really look for options, be it at youth level or elsewhere, it may make sense to actively try to sell, but certainly not now. Joe Riley, who was just sent out on loan, would be the prime guy at the club in my estimation, to take over AY's spot next season.
Young is not good enough to be a starter for a CL chasing side. If he wants regular playing time then he can drop down a level and take the appropriate wage.
lol and yet in the transfer thread there were calls for him to stay. he adds nothing at the moment. not goals, not assists, not defensive stability. at his age he isn't going to improve or learn new tricks. he's been fortunate enough to stay this long. it's time to go home to Watford or Villa or wherever

AY has been named Player of the Month for November. Well deserved IMO: he's been superb since coming back.
If Shaw does not catch his form in the next six month, AY should be the starting LB for England with that current form.

Should be 3 goals. If Frank Lampard came make a career off deflected goals then surely Ashley Young should be credited with the goal last Saturday.

I'm fine with him staying as a depth piece and as a LB against lower level opposition. But if we roll into next season with him and Shaw as our LBs, we are beyond stupid.
