That is a lot of money, but the lad is a good player, but still a lot of money between V-League sides. I could understand if he was going to somewhere like Korea or Japan for that money. Mayeb it's just Vietnam flexing their muscles.

Vietnam have so many tournements coming up, all seem to be at once aswell, hard to keep track of whats happening. I read a press release the other day, stating Trinidad had turned down the invite due to world cup qualifiers. Hence the difference in opinion between Jonny and Fancom on who's playing.

    U21 International Thanh Nien Cup

    Hosted in Vietnam

    Day One report from www.aseanfootball.org

HUE (22 Sept 2008) – The Vietnam national Under-21 team began the U21 International Thanh Nien Cup with a fabulous 4-2 win over Asean rivals Malaysia at the Tu Do Stadium in Hue province.

“I am very pleased with what my players demonstrated. However, we have a lot more to do, especially improving the defence,” said Luu Quoc Tan, the head coach of the Vietnam.

The defending champions were the early aggressors and took the lead in the sixth minute off Duc Thien before Malaysia replied through Ahmad Fakri Saarani two minutes later.

Van Khai then restored the advantage for Vietnam in the 20th minute as Duc Thien then gave the homesters a two-goal cushion with his second goal of the afternoon five minutes later.

    T. Kavichelvan then gave Malaysia a glimmer of hope on 29th minute with the second goal for the visitors.

But the concession of a penalty in the 63rd minute in the second half saw Van Khai slamming home from the spot for the well-deserved victory.

“We did not play as well as we should. I will have to make the necessary changes for our next encounter against Thailand,” said K. Rajagobal, the head coach for Malaysia.

Vietnam are in Group A of this year’s championship alongside Malaysia and Thailand while Group B are Myanmar, Singapore and Iran.

U21 International Thanh Nien Cup - Latest News

HUE (23 Sept 2008) – Thailand made the semi-finals of the U21 International Thanh Nien Cup when they beat Malaysia 4-1 at the Tu Do Stadium in the central town of Hue.

“I am pleased with the result,” said Kawin Kachendecha, the head coach for Thailand.

“We must beat Vietnam to top Group A and avoid Iran in the semis. We want to advance further in the competition and hope to be in the final.”

The loss for Malaysia, who were represented by their young Under-19 squad, was their second following their 4-2 defeat at the hands of hosts Vietnam yesterday.

But the Malaysians were a lot more composed in the opening half of the game when they scored the lead off Thamil Arasu in the 11th minute.

The Thais then took control of the midfield and seven minutes later, they scored the equaliser when Rachanon Sirnok headed in the cross from Theerathon Bunmathan.

The Malaysian defence stood firm for much of the rest of the game until the 77th minute when Nirunrit Jaroensuk rifled in a shot from some way out to put Thailand 2-1 in front.

The Thais then scored twice more towards the end of the game off
Jirawut Saranan in the 89th minute and Charin Boodhad in the 90th minute for the final scoreline.

With the win, Thailand and Vietnam will fight it out tomorrow to decide the group champions as Malaysia head home.

“We lost because my players couldn’t control the midfield. However, we can learn a lot from this competition,” said K.Rajagopal, the head coach for Malaysia.

That's true. North Korea, Uzbekistan and Thailand will participate in T&T Cup (might be changed to VFF Cup). I was wrong about the HCM Open Cup with Myanmar, Turkmenistan and the Korean College team.

Vietnam will also play 2 friendly games against Singapore. The first leg will be on 14/10 in VN. The second leg is in November in Singapore.

Alves Kesley, considered one of the best strikers in V-League in his 4 years in Viet Nam, is applying for Vietnamese citizenship. He's playing for the champion Binh Duong and is married to a Vietnamese wife.

he did. Except for the 2nd year, he won the Top Scorer in his first year and was runner up/third place for the other 2. Da Nang is also trying to persuade Almeida who has been playing for the team for about 5 yrs now and won the top scorer 3/ last 5 seasons to apply for citizenship. He scored about 21-24 goals/season.

Only Myanmar NT and Indonesia NT have played each other before this year. Myanmar and Indonesia NT using this tournament for final preparation before finals in December , Vietnam U23 and Malaysia U23 start preparations before SEA Games 2009.

ASEAN teams always prepare much better before ASEAN Championship than before World Cup qualifiers...
