I strongly recommend reading this ProPublica article on the USS Fitzgerald - MV ACX Crystal collision of July 17, 2017. https://features.propublica.org/navy-accidents/uss-fitzgerald-destroyer-crash-crystal/ It paints a damning picture of the current state of the United States Navy.
I saw this. I had to chuckle a little inside about everyone who made disparaging comments about the Russian and Chinese navies.
17-year-old software seems to be a strange criticism to add to a pile of vastly more consequential problems. There's not much reason to even mention it.
THAT is a legit criticism. I mean, there's software older than me on ships and planes all through our services.
I and 3 of my siblings served...3 in communications and 1 Dr. When we got together the stories were enough to make you laugh and quite often to cry.
I saw the article before, started reading it, but it started with too much drama for me. Is their conclusion to throw more money at the problem?
You prefer keeping human death at the level of just numbers? I assume anyone who says this doesn't know how the world works.
