Because man to man marking at set pieces is laughably easy to defeat? Most teams use zonal with perhaps certain man to man orientations
Hmmm. I guess it's just the Arsenal method that doesn't look too convincing. Or maybe more teams use it but the announcers just insist on using the term zonal marking when commentating on Arsenal games. Not trolling, I was genuinely wondering. Anyway, carry on.
There is quite a few English dino pundits moan about it But basically all elite teams use zonal systems of some kind
Announcers only say "zonal marking" when they're unsuccessfully trying to explain why a team gave up a goal
Right but it doesn't look as rigid as when Arsenal do it if that makes sense. A lot of teams will match man to man on big threats and do some form of zone marking in addition. Arsenal seem to just line up in zones and expect the system to take care of everything.
He's looked the same as usual, that is, he looks good, but completely mediocre in terms of final products. Messed up his finish, when he should have cut back to Sanchez. Beat a defender at the byline, but couldn't do anything with it. Whiffed an open goal chance, but fortunately fell to Sanchez. That's 3 times he got himself into good positions, but couldn't do anything with the ball. There is a reason why he's never scored double digit league goals in his career, or established himself as first choice at any club in any season he's ever played.
