Laca's just lacked a bit of dominating physicality or sharpness in the box. Diego Costa, as much as I despise him, might've turned his defender and scored a goal there.

Mignolet is just wretched at times.

    Exciting match.

Beforehand on Arsenal.com I voted for a draw as the most likely result. But I didn't expect it to play out quite the way it did.

Both teams keep their undefeated streaks and league positions intact. For now anyway.

They live to fight another day, after a nice break for the players over Xmas. And I live to start another thread.

    Onward!

Lacazette and Ozil are the two most aware players we have. It's like they're on speed and everyone else is hammered.

Also, what has happened to Koscielny? He's fallen off a cliff this season.

50 million for Lacazette, a 5 million pound player maybe.

Only time I ever saw Arsenal live, I thought the same thing. I know nothing, and it was obvious to even me that this guy is on a different planet.

Only other Arsenal players I can remember having that kind of awareness are Fabregas, Bergkamp, and perhaps Rosicky.

He is a fine player ... service has been poor... where the hell are the through balls? and quite frankly aside from Özil... there has been no decent final third passing from the attacking four...poor spacing on counters
One knock on him is that I wish he shoot more....

Ok. Just watched the game after a rough day at work. First I thought Arsenal were shit. Then I thought Liverpoop were shit. Ultimately both teams were shit, but plenty entertaining to watch.

Ref was great for not being a douchebag.

+1. Can I get another drink please?

Seriously. Watched the second goal again. It was like watching Almunia at his very worst.

For me it was like that seeing RvP for the first time at Highbury in the League cup in 2004 - before he was a locked first teamer

His technique was so phenomenal, it was like watching an artist on the field playing against plebs

His first touch was so amazing, and he seemed to have so much time on the ball.

You just knew you were watching one of the greats

The push into the ground when shooting is Ozil’s thing, isn’t it? Keepers never expect it.

Ozil really played superbly in the 2nd half

It's such a shame Wenger can't sort out the base of midfield to create a proper platform

There needs to be a decent 6 and an elite centre half, especially now Koz and Merte are done.

Imagine how different Arsenal would be if they had Jerome Boateng and Javi Martinez

I have two takeaways from the game:

First, part of Liverpool's defensive problem is Klopp's high press. No team can press effectively for 90 minutes, so if teams can weather the storm in the first half, they will get chances in the second half. Arsenal played better in the second half because they had more space. On Xhaka's goal, he wouldn't have had the time and space to take the shot in the first half. That said, Arsenal need players better capable of weathering the storm.

Second, over the years I have been a huge fan of Kos, but it may be time to look at a Mustafi and Chambers or Holding pairing.. His defense on the first goal was good, but he was nowhere to be seen on the third goal and he didn't cover himself in glory between the two.

True. Not classically pretty. But quite effective.

Or Santi Cazorla. His loss has really been bigger than we ever dreamed it would be.

I agree. Only idiots with no clue shot on ozil

Imagine have Ramsey and xhaka behind u. U would be worried all the time

With a strong spine u could play with freedom. He is showing that with n intelligent striker with some pace what a difference it makes

I have heard wenger is after luiz and n zonzi

If we play luiz in a back 3 or as a dm it would benefit the side so much and if n zonzi comes too we would be much more solid

Either way, ozil and Sanchez have not been utilised as well as they could’ve been with the right players around them
