I was about to point out the same thing about a player on my oldest daughters team. She walked off, felt good enough to re enter the game, tried to cut laterally and immediately fell down.
I believe the girl I mentioned ruptured her ACL, she didn’t fall down because it hurt, she fell because she had no lateral support.
OK. Hard to imagine someone rupturing their ACL and feeling good enough to go back on. But since you say so... In either case, we still await the news on Chambers. And the extent of the damage, thus the duration of his recovery.
It's unlikely but not unheard of. See the two friends I mentioned, both of whom suffered complete tears that required surgery but nevertheless walked off the pitch at the time it happened.
OK, this wasn't perfectly clear from your first post, where you said they walked/played after an ACL "injury". I thought maybe they weren't necessarily full ruptures. But now as you've clarified that, I must say I'm hard-pressed to imagine how some one would walk, let alone play, after severing their ACL. From what you and others say, apparently it does happen. Crazy. Meanwhile... we still await news on the severity of Calum's damage.
The ACL provides lateral support for the knee. As long as you’re walking in a straight line it has limited impact on your movement.
I lived 16 yrs with a partially torn ACL that was completely shredded by the time I finally got it replaced. Day to day life, walking around, etc... Is mostly fine. Actually playing is a no go. Trying any kind of cutting will cause the knee to slip and it will hurt just as much as the first time they injured it. I know, did it atleast a dozen times.
well, crap. and he was finally getting a run at the correct position, too. blech. thanks for info. couldn't find it anywhere.
we've also been playing our best defensive mid as an attacking mid for whatever reason. xhaka's situation was unexpected. all of which has led to guenduzi playing a bigger role than he really should be. if he hadn't crocked his knee, i think it might have been interesting to try chambers out as a deep lying defensive mid/ball recycler while torreira does the actual running. i do wonder if arteta could have rescued elneny as a player.
Another possibility is to play Nelson centrally. I think he could do a job there. I like guenduzi but he’s definitely taken a step back—He doesn’t progress the ball like he used too, isnt particularly good pressing the ball, and lacks real pace. Sit Laca, play Auba central, play Martinelli, ozil and Pepe behind. Torreira and Nelson behind ozil. Let united have the ball bc they can’t do anything with it and blitz them in transition.
Tom Brady walked off after his ACL rupture, which is the highest profile instance I can think of. So it obviously does happen.
Man, I was at derby vs charlton last night and bielik was starting as a dm (he got a straight red at 17 mins in lol) but he looked like he had the size and passing ability to play dm for us in the tiny amount of time I saw him hopefully we have a buy back because he can play cb too derby have missed him And been poor without him. I have a feeling if he doesn’t come back he may be one that got away
Granted the source isn't the greatest but....... https://arseblog.news/2019/12/report-chambers-suffers-acl-injury/
That's even more impressive/crazy. The two friends I have who've done their achilles said it felt like what it must be like to be shot.
I know it's NYE, but it's a little strange the way there's no hard news on this, no public statement by AFC. All of these supposed news reports from the last day or two are based on Arteta's vague comments immediately post match.
I was hoping he’d be given a chance to prove himself at Arsenal this year, but it wasn’t in the cards.
