Welbeck is like a worse version of Dirk Kuyt

UEFA Cup 1999-2000 we won at home to Deportivo 5-1 and lost away second leg 2-1 winning 6-3 on agg.
Thats about the last time I could find it happening to us since the 98/99 season in Europe.

Wow that's a long time ago. Was BigSoccer just being born then? I certainly wasn't on this board yet.

But I'll try looking up our threads from that time to see what was done with the next thread starter.

My gut says that since it was a loss somebody new steps up.

Edit: BigSoccer's thread history only seems to go back to 2002 so we can't settle it that way. I think some of the other old-timers around the Arsenal boards might also way in, like maybe @yossarian or @michaec?

    Reliving past glories it is.

I fully trust Welbeck to top Adebayor’s miss at full time from ten years ago (!)

AC Milan in the next round. I guess it was nice to make it to the r16 of something.

Looking forward to playing Milan - nice to finally face a top opponent in EL.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I was under the impression that Milan are not very good these days. Kind of like us.

Thus it seems that we could've gotten a worse draw.

Edit: They're on a better run of form than I realized. 8-3-0 under Gatuso.

I think in the past, we've always been pretty strict about a loss meaning that thread starter was done. But as the research shows the last time that happened and we progressed in a cup was a loooong time ago. And frankly, back then I don't believe we had any match day thread rule. IIRC, that really didn't until Coach McGuirk and Rick were mods @ 2002-03.

If folks want to chime in hear so we can get a consensus, I'm fine with whatever is decided. My vote would be for you to continue. It's not like the "thread starter" rule has stopped us from sucking lately. So if folks want to break it based on the technicality that we still won the tie, fine with me. But people need to say so quickly.

Not surprisingly I vote with the simple and clear tradition of: game-lost-means-new-thread-starter.

That said, I agree with Yoss that we need to move on quickly, since we're <48hrs away from a cup-final KO.

It was nice to watch a team last night that was well-organized, well-coached, and played with real heart and desire.

Unfortunately, that was the team in white.

They reminded me of Burnley, which I mean as a compliment.

None of you haters want to discuss how Xhaka came on at the half for AMN and actually helped settle things down in the midfield?

Wow, just saw this stat, what a record of mediocrity in our past 7 home European fixtures:

    2012 CL L16: 3-0 v Milan
    2013 CL L16: 1-3 v Bayern
    2014 CL L16: 0-2 v Bayern
    2015 CL L16: 1-3 v Monaco
    2016 CL L16: 1-3 v Barcelona
    2017 CL L16: 1-5 v Bayern
    2018 EL L32: 1-2 v Ostersunds

You meant to say home European KNOCKOUT fixtures. But yes, we've been pathetic. Except that little glimmer of hope against Milan 6 years ago??

"Away" kits again? I mean, it makes a sort of literal sense if we refuse to show up.

I think the problem with Iwobi is he looks and plays exactly the same as he did when he first broke out with the 1st team. He makes great runs with the ball, great movement without the ball, then when he needs to make that final pass to crack the last line of defenders, he doesn't and messes up bad.

The last couple years we've been saying how he'll learn to make those decisions quicker and then he'll be great. But he hasn't learned yet. Not in the slightest. He keeps doing great things until it's time to release the last pass and he still doesn't. No growth (not to beat that dead horse).
