The commentary team banging on about us getting the benefit of the calls, rather ignoring the fact we should have had a clear PK earlier on...
I have no "fetishes" about any formation. The back 3 Lampard used was terrible because it created no chances any time it was used. It didn't create chances against Spurs either. When Conte used it it worked well. When Frank has used it it's been terrible. Let's not do terrible things.
Excellent comeback. Lampard started off with a terrible formation but credit to him to recognize that quickly and change. Great fight from the team. Sidenote: What is up with Kante? He hasn't been the same since the injury.
Fortunate Jorginho was still on pitch, but I'd like to see another camera angle because I don't think he really pulls too hard on Gwen. I think it's more 70/30 on Gwen selling it, which he did very well, but not quite good enough it's about time we got some breaks
Fair enough. I shall withdraw the word 'fetish' and instead use, 'obsession' Nah, just busting yer balls mate, I think part of the problem is that Zouma can't play the ball out of the back and, so far this season, Rudi's been poor as well. So, out of a back 3, 2 of them can't create anything and, on occasion, even struggle to play it to someone who can. They seem to wait until the guy receiving has someone on him. I'm just trying to remember who we had as a back 3 then... Dave and sideshow, wasn't it? With someone else, obviously. Gaz, maybe? We just looks rather ponderous when the back line has it now.
I think the guy felt a slight touch, left his arm back there and flopped on the floor, tbh. if you look Jorg waves his arm around in frustration when the guy goes down. Bearing in mind that looked to be exactly the same situation as tammy and that wasn't given, why should that be called. LeArse were falling down left and right. The commentators were also trying to make out tammy's contact was outside the box but it only started there. It continued inside as well so was definitely a PK if Jorg's was a second yellow.
Everyone ran their socks off today. Good effort, although I think we were a bit lucky. Teams are now setting up to defend and hit us on the break, very effectively. Anyone else thinks that our best pair at the base of the midfield is Kovacic and Jorginho? Kante and Willian seem to be slowing down our attacks too much.
Was not Kante's best day but he still had a whole lot of necessary defensive moments, it is so natural it may be taken for granted and underappreciated a bit but shows in his absence, Kov and Jorg getting better defensively but they always have some uhh ohh moments if Kante out of side Think a diamond may fit us best against better sides, especially when James healthy and Az on left, with Kante, Kov Jorginho and Mount usually or Pul at tip and Pul or Willian as a second free-ish forward of sorts
Or just play a 4-3-3 with our 3 best midfielders (Jorginho, Kovacic and Kante) and our two best attacking midfielders (Willian, Pulisic) alongside Tammy.
Because we look crap when Mount does not play, we miss his his energy, pressing, effort, movement both making himself available and splitting, peeling off defenders with attacking movements, his goals, his assists, his passing, funny how people like Dixon and so many others love him but you always knock him, pretend he is named Mountinho
We've looked bad in attack for the past 3 games, and he has played two and a half of them. I have absolutely no idea why him being named "Mountinho" would make any kind of difference. He's clearly inferior to Willian and Pulisic, and getting our best players on the pitch is a good idea. Incidentally, while we certainly miss his pressing when he doesn't play, we most certainly don't miss his passing.
Moses and Alonso as the wing backs - The Daves and Christensen. Yeah he would given us a little more creativity. I like the 4-2-3-1 - it works with the players we currently have. That is my fetish. I thought CHO actually did well when he came on today, that is encouraging.
Guendouzi should have been sent off in the first half AND we should have had a penalty. So, all in all, a fair result and we got the win we deserved. Jorghino MOTM
What a COMEBACK. A third of our team may not be good enough but we clearly have the framework in place to be a great team. Optimistic for the future. The short term can and will be frustrating. Need Pulisic back.
He looked noticeably more polished today than he has done. Maybe he's getting some confidence back? ... and yet, strangely, MOTD didn't find time to show the incident... How very odd. What's even stranger is that their two pundits didn't mention it either... They probably forgot
