Would he fit into the Revs plans? I know that is a silly question as Burns doesn't plan any further ahead then his next bowel movement but what do you think of reaching for him? He'd fit in great. I assume he is used to playing on turf as he grew up playing in Iceland. Thoughts? How much would he cost MLS? New England?

Probably 2 to 3 million per year is my guess. But he's contracted until 2018.

He'd fit in perfectly with our style of play, but you'd have to pick my jaw up off the floor if he ever came to the Revs.

I agree we can all agree this will never happen. I'd see him sign for Atlanta before the Revs... but why not throw our thoughts on this board even though we know Burns won't be reading this nor would even think of pursuing this.

    Opportunity cost, mostly.

Since they signed JJ, they've only measured 2 times. 7 more to go!

To be honest. I think jones has greatly moved the needle in boston. I also believe that the revs are one major usmnt dp away from planting a large foothold in the region. I do think it would take someone like johannsson to really put them over the top. I don't think the revs would be out of the running if he only commanded 2 to 4 million a year. I also think it may help keep jones here for the long term. If we don't sign someone this season I am afraid JJ may head to LA2 or San Jose in the off season.

Major USMNT DP and Johansson don't really go together. (And I like him).

So your saying LA Galaxy will sign him for like 100K. I think this kid is going to command 7 figures.

I think he's saying that he's not a "major" player in regards to exposure/fame. He barely played at the World Cup which unfortunately is most Americans' only exposure to our team/players. Jones' fame and popularity is pretty much all due to his World Cup performance.

Gotcha. I enjoy him since he has been playing for the USMNT last year.

I guess the bottom line is... what is Johannsson worth to the league on an annual basis and would Burns fork over the cash to bring him to New England?

I don't know the answer to the first question, but I think we all know the answer to the second: No, or if he did, it would not be enough. But enough that he could say "We felt we made a reasonable offer, so naturally we're disappointed that we weren't able to sign him."

Absolutely. He would be a huge draw for Icelandic-Americans. All three of them.

Not going to "move the needle on and off the field." I doubt they sign him.

I think there's a decent chance Johannsson could play a big role for the USMNT going forward. Hes been playing well recey imo.

Why not pick him up before he becomes a big name and his price rises?

Actually there's over 40,000 Americans who claim Icelandic heritage. But they mostly aren't in New England. And by mostly, I mean "almost entirely" or "maybe entirely".
