Isn’t Aaron Johansson coming to MLS to retire?

The big sell off for AZ was 2015-16, which included AJ.

Of course not, because it makes too much sense for a guy like Aron to come to a place where he could actually play regularly and likely still compete. It's not like he's moving anywhere. He's out of contract. He'll have to impress the hell out of someone with his A) talent, and B) ability to walk from point A to point B without needing another 3 months of rehab.

Best of luck. I’d imagine a MLS club would want to see him on trial before committing.

Any league with tough spending restraints is never a good place for a guy who has severe problems staying healthy.

I wonder how much of that is coming from him not wanting to leave Europe yet and how much of that is coming MLS not wanting an iffy striker made of glass.

According to this article from Sweden, he is most likely heading to Hammarby.

He's returning to Iceland the slow way.

Maybe he can fail there, go to Columbus, and work his way into the national team again.

On 15 July, Hammarby wants to fill the gap of the striker Kjaryansson with Aron Johannsson. The 28-year-old striker, departing from Werder Bremen, is unable to wear regular uniforms for a long time due to disability.

Is that part about unable to wear regular uniforms lost in translation?

I hope so, because if he's unable to put on a jersey due to disability, well, he's in big trouble.

Doesn’t it translate that he hasn’t been able to play on the first team due to ongoing injuries?

That's the obvious conclusion, I think.

Look like we have our answer. These days, Scandinavia isn't any better than even mid-table MLS, doesn't pay any better either, except maybe for the scrubs, and Hammarby aren't the richest club in Sweden either. Even the richest clubs have bottom half of the Eredivisie budgets.

Unless he hopes a 6-month deal or a longer-term deal with a low buyout clause can loft him back to the bigger leagues on the back of tearing up the AllSvenskan, he's not had any interest Stateside and has settled for what he can get..

His family and friends live in Iceland, he'll be closer to them playing in Sweden.

Not true. Bremen is just as close to Reykjavik as Stockholm is.

Problem is that Bremen doesn’t want him.

Well ... not even the Danish club that developed him want him back, even though they are looking for a striker and have good money to spend ... Hammarby must be desperate and have run out of money if they are about to invest in a player who get injured as often as Aron do...
