The Arizona Sahuaros U23's came up short in their quest to win the USASA U23 National Cup. They drew their first match against Futsoc USA Enigma from southern Florida. In the second match they lost to an excellent Chicago Fire club. Both matches were played under very warm and humid conditions on Friday and the effects could be seen on the players as the match wore on. The loss to Chicago eliminated the Sahuaros from contention as only the top club in the group progressed. Chicago had won its first match. On Saturday, the Arizona club handily beat FC Maryland 4-0 in a lightning shortened match. The match highlight was Pat Perkins' first half hat trick. Read about the Sahuaros in Kansas on their website. Next year the competition will be held in Phoenix along with the US Youth Soccer National Championships.
Arizona Sahuaros Kick Off 2011 The Arizona Sahuaros will kick off its 2011 schedule beginning on Thursday, Jan 20 at 7:30pm v the Canadian Olympic team. On Wed, Feb 2 at 10am, they will play Real Salt Lake. Both games will be at Grande Sports World in Casa Grande.
Re: Arizona Sahuaros Kick Off 2011 The Sahuaros rallied from a 1-0 half time deficit to defeat the Canadian Olympic Team 2-1. Goals by Daniel Toya and Pat Perkins put the Arizona team over the top. In addition to the matches listed in the quote, the Sahuaros are currently scheduled to play Sporting KC at Hi Corbett Field in Tucson on March 4 @ 7pm.
Does anyone know if the Sahuaros will be playing in the NPSL in 2011? It appears the Southwest Division will be returning, so I am hoping the Sahuaros return too.
Unknown at this time, but something's in the works. Meanwhile ... The Sahuaros will play the New Zealand Olympic team on Friday, Feb 25 at 7:30pm at Grande Sports World. On Saturday, Feb 26, they will play MLS club Vancouver at Reach 11 at 11am.
The Sahuaros played to a 1-1 draw vs the New Zealand Olympic team at Grande Sports World. The Arizona club dominated the first half, but could not score. After subbing out most of the first team, they took a 1-0 lead as Miguel Bonavida scored on a cross by Joao Bonavida. But the Kiwis began to exert themselves as the 2nd half wore on and scored the equalizer with about 10 minutes left in the match. In addition to playing the Whitecaps of MLS on Sat at Reach 11, the Sahuaros will play in the Desert Cup in Tucson on Friday Mar 4 vs Sporting KC and Saturday vs FC Tucson. The NY Red Bulls are the 4th club participating in the event.
The Whitecaps gave the Sahuaros a beat down by a score of 6-1 today at Reach 11. Up 2-1 at the half, the Vancouver club dominated the 2nd half. Pat Perkins scored for the AZ team, with an assist by Mitch Garcia. Next up for the Sahuaros, the Desert Cup in Tucson next weekend(Fri/Sat).
What kind of contribution would need to be made to Sahuaros to get them into the NPSL? Or is it really a lack of desire? I think it would be worth it to get a cash goal to cover a seasons worth of travel, at least have that number up. So if maybe someone wanted to promote the Sahuaros they could have their money going towards that. Personally if the Sahuaros and Monsoon were both NPSL teams I would root for the Sahuaros because they are the more established local team. It's a little odd isn't it? The Sahuaros are all team with no business and the Monsoon are all business with no team.
The Sahuaros played in the NPSL in 2008 in a 4 team SW conference. The conference folded with the loss of one of the teams. I don't know why they haven't decided to rejoin the newly reconstituted SW conference, all CA teams as far as I can see. There are whispers in the wind about this year, but nothing that can be substantiated.
Can't make it to Tucson?? The Sahuaros will split its squad and play FC Dallas on Sat, Mar 5 at Reach 11, Field 15 at 6pm.
At the MLS Desert Classic in Tucson, the Sahuaros lost to Sporting KC 6-1 on Friday and then drew against host FC Tucson 3-3 with Pat Perkins recording a hat trick. Working with a split squad, the Sahuaros were dominated by MLS Cup runnerup FC Dallas, 7-0, at Reach 11 on Saturday night. A note about the MLS Desert Cup. This event by FC Tucson, a brand new team, was top class all the way. They put on a fantastic show, and exhibited extraordinary hospitality to all of the visiting teams. I overhead one conversation from the Red Bulls that noted that their visiting locker amenities equaled or exceeded those afforded by some MLS teams. That bodes well for them revisiting Arizona next preseason. And the community certainly welcomed the event with over 10,000 people filling Hi Corbett on Saturday night. Once again, a huge thumbs up to FC Tucson, their fans, and the city.
Thanks. Hoping for Galaxy vs. Union next year. Only problem was the fact that the Red Bulls didn't go for PK's at the end. Overall though, this event is making Tucson reconsider what to do with the Hi Corbett facility. Probably convert it to a baseball/soccer facility, instead of just a baseball facility. On another note, the beer sales were through the roof, the official attendance was at 10,097, and AO Tucson will support another Cup and members from PHX coming to next years Cup.
The Sahuaros defeated Yavapai FC 5-2 last Friday in Prescott. Next up.... The Sahuaros will play the Mexican League first division team Xolos Tijuana on July 3 at 9:00pm at: Desert Mirage High School Stadium, Thermal, CA
Personally, I think the Sahuraros need to be rebranded. Also, what is their goal? PDL, NASL, MLS, popular local team? Almost no one knows who they are. They need to promote themselves. A better name would be a good start.
Come on guys. Please try and join FC Tucson in the PDL. http://www.uslsoccer.com/home/586034.html We are going to need an in state rival. "The I-10 derby".
I encourage you to all check out this picture. Look at the description. "BVSC Owner/Head Coach Sergio Taborda with Mr. Francisco Marcos, USL Chairman @ USL AGM and other two portuguese USL franchise Owners, NJ Rangers and future Phoenix USL Pro." So I'm guessing PHX will have a USL team in 2013. So maybe there will be an I-10 rivalry. http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=218216964919068&set=a.145544835519615.37419.129545257119573&type=1&ref=nf
Wow, very interesting. If this is true, USL Pro would be a great step forward. If they can show sustainability, MLS is the only next logical step. I bet MLS will be watching it closely. If they could draw a decent crowd against teams like Rochester Rhinos and Richmond Kickers, things could get interesting.
