hmm.. only real benefit in CA and GC joining is the top 2 go to confederations cup, meaning more than likely 2 SA teams go.

well I guess the other thing would be more $$$. If this became the premier tourney for the Americas, and held every 4 years lets say right after, or before the Euro then it could make some decent dough, and we all know how Conmebol feels about more money.....

But thats all speculation of course. :)

Yes and we all know if they make more money with it or not it's pointless. In the end it'll just hurt the competition.

Well then let's mess with the Gold Cup instead of the Copa América.

The Confederations Cup doesn't make it much more appealing...

I like the 6 team CONCACAF, let's say that those 6 are USA, Mexico, Honduras, Costa Rica, Trinidad and Canada(?).

That leaves a total of 16 teams with 4 groups of 4, which is perfect.

And the CONCACAF teams would be able to send their full squads.

I also think that playing in the Confederations Cup is appealing

So top 2 qualify to Confederations Cup regardless of federation. I wouldn't mind that. Every 4 years so teams send their strongest sides and a full rotation and bidding process and this could rival the Euro. Besides it would take some fixture congestion out since 2 tourneys become 1.

Lets be serious the Gold Cup is a joke, Copa America is better but not as important as it used to be. Most countries don't send their strongest sides. Who wouldn't want more top class Tournaments?

Imo, that is the best solution along with making the Copa América a 10-team tourney again. Either one would work for me.

    12 teams is whack.

    Quieren mejorarla?
    dejen de invitar a gente.

Y no seria mucho mas importante si la Copa sirviera para clasificar al mundial?

The thing I don't like about the Gold Cup for Mexico is that the guatamala and el salvador refs always screw Mexico over with yellows yhat were not deserved. Copa America the refs let fair play which makes for a better tournament.

I love watching Copa America, Euros or World Cup.

But this thing with Brasil sending their F side, is not good. Everyone downgrades our win in 2001, even though we won the entire tournament without letting in a single goal.

I'm sorry but that CA was a complete disgrace. That was Argentina's Cup, the way that Bielsa had the team playing it was going to be a rout. Either way, someone came up with some terrorism excuse and we ended up not going. It was the same thing with Brazil and Uruguay (yet they went).

I was joking around w/ my Argentine friend that when 2014 rolls around, strings will be pulled to ensure Argentina plays the opening games in the Amazon. But he then said, "yes, and we'll make you play all your Copa America 2011 games in Tierra del Fuego." :D

Copa America here in Canada is probably the best soccer tournament to watch on TV besides the World Cup and Euro tournaments, as South American soccer gets more exposure here than African football or even Asian football which is just not fair as Copa America & Euro both get broadcasted on major TV stations here in Canada while the Asian Cup and African Cup of Nations do not.

But enough about my banter, back to the task at hand

And the task at hand here is talking about Copa America 2011, and that is what I am about to do here right now.

The favorites here for 2011 Copa America are obviously Argentina the host nation, I mean, playing in front of their home fans on their continent in their own country in their own backyard, and let's not forget that Maradona is going to be coaching the side for Copa America and their squad make-up will most likely consist of such players like Messi, Higuain, Pastore, Di Maria, Otamendi, Lavezzi I hope he gets a chance to showcase his game, same goes for Rodrigo Palacio, Insua, Gago, and whichever of Argentina's youth being displayed.

Let's not forget the defending Copa America champions Brazil, who always seem to dominate in Copa America with whichever teams they bring into Copa America

And then there are teams like Uruguay who made it to the semis last Copa America, Chile, Paraguay, Mexico even, and other teams to look out for at Copa America 2011 are:

    Ecuador, Colombia, Venezuela, and Peru

Watch out with that site, because some of the pictures of the stadiums are old. Some have different shapes now.
