Copa= euro ( both are continental championship )...If u dont admit this its ur problem. You can expect brazil to take part in euro only if a natural calamity unexpectedly shifts the entire brazil to europe ( which is perhaps not possible ). So, love it or hate it, euro=copa for comparison. Usa played brazil in final...Its not brazils fault ( spain couldnt qualify )...U guys always say confeds are unimportant. Now if spain loses ,u say the same thing but if they win then you will surely say that Spain has won 4 majors 1 wc + 2 euros + 1 confed....
Did u have the opportunity to see both the teams play with each other...No.... How can u compare. Ur crazy ..........The brazil team of 70 was incredibly talented. Just incredibly talented. Dont post comments unless u have facts to support them.
Its too strong a point to make considering the fact that spain has just won 1 world cup. There are other very very good teams of yester years which was equal or even better than spain. For the time being "Its only your opinion"
Again, its only your opinion. Its very much a competitive tourney and all of the teams are nowadays taking it seriously. Its a good tournament to measure your progress b4 wc.
No, it was not fair....Netherlands didn't play football that day..They played rugby. The referee was too partial.
Nah. It was a fairly even match, in which the other team scored 2 goals, while the other just 1. Fair win, end of story. Possession, fouls pretty even. Brazil with with a few more shots, Netherlands with more shots on goals.
Always love that kind of argument "No way a 70' team would beat someone now, things are different!". Yes, I agree. I can imagine Brazil 70' players training right now, with good physical builds, etc. Sorry, if I think like that, they could be invencible, since they were TOO MUCH talented. Almost all positions.
It wasn't fair..It wasn't fair... boo hoooo cry me a river. You are throwing a blind eye to Brazil's dirty tactics by players such as Fabiano and Alves in the first half, we got soft yellow cards while the ref did nothing at all against your thugs. It was only in the second half he finally was being more fair. You're also avoiding the cold hard fact: If you give up all hope after a goal that literally came falling out of the sky you deserve to lose.
No not at all...I saw the full match....It was very dirty tactics used by holland....Pls see the full match on you tube.
Dirty tactics? Brazil with 20 fouls committed, Netherlands with 19. Please get over the fact in a fair game, Brazil lost. Also, when talking football, it's one thing to throw in the "you haven't seen" argument when a player from a not-so-major league is concerned, or even when discussing a player like Neymar in Santos. But we're talking about a World Cup quarter: obviously everyone watched that match (at least once).
I never said it wasn't a competitive tournament. It's just not a major tournament. All anyone ever cares about really is the World champion and (to a lesser extent) the regional champions. The Confederations Cup champions aren't in the discussion. It's a fun tournament to watch, but a few months after its over nobody remembers it. "Yeah, Spain might have won the 2010 World Cup, but Brazil won the 2009 Confederations Cup." - said by nobody ever.
What about the dirty fouls vs brazilian players which were not given..........They were many more than what the referee allowed.
Those are nothing but numbers. They tell nothing of the story. Where did each foul take place? In what moment? Were they mistimed tackles or professional fouls? It's like saying a CB had a better passing game than an AM because his completion % was higher. The CB was 20 for 20 passing it around the back while the AM was 12 for 16 while being tightly marked and trying to play decisive through balls.
This Spain team is one of the best ever. They have won quite a bit. But, there are national teams that have won for a much longer time. Spain is fairly new to winning. Hungary was a like Spain in the 50s. But, only Brazil and Italy have won consecutive World Cups, and Italy has won World Cups from the 30s to the 2000s. It will take a bit more for Spain to be considered the best national team ever. They need to win more than one World Cup, at the moment they are equal to England history wise.
Neitherlands beat Brazil fair and square in 2010 imo, but in the finals they should have been down to 9 men after 30mins
Depends on what rules were used. If the rules for fouls, off-sides etc. of today were used then the current teams would probably win. If the rules of the past were used, a modern team wouldn't get out of their own half and would end up with a lot of injured players.
Not quite! Melo was Netherland HERO to beat his own team 1- Created an OWN GOAL (from Sneijder FK) 2- Got a RED and left the team with 1 man short facing the tough Netherlanc
With a Confederations cup victory, they could arguably be the best team ever. 4 major international tournaments in a row is unheard of. I think they have a chance to win the world cup again. Their play during the confederations cup is more attacking and threatening then anything we saw before. They realized other teams were beginning to figure out their tactics and have worked to change their one flaw-scoring. In addition, the loss of Xabi Alonso as a defensive midfielder alongside Sergio Busquets has allowed for Spain to get forward more often and faster. ..And the quality of today's football has improved drastically over the last decades. The entire playing field is much more advanced
If they were, they didn't prove it with actual results. Here's an illustration of how successful the current Spain NT is: For decades Spain has been labelled the underachievers of the footballing world. But with one core group of players, and in 5 years, Spain went from historical underachievers to tied with Germany for the most European championships and 1 of only 3 European nations to win a World Cup without the huge benefit of home advantage.
Spain didn't win the 2009 Confederations Cup. Therefore, they are on a streak of just two major international tournaments (2010 World Cup + Euro 2012). Plus, I wouldn't consider the Confederations Cup a "major" international tournament since only 8 teams participate in it. It's a nice little addition to a trophy cabinet, but not much more than that.
Do you consider confeds to be a major tourney????? Well there are lots of Spaniards in this forum who think otherwise.
