GUESS THE NUMBER THAT ARDA WILL WEAR AND WIN HIS JERSEY!

We have just signed Arda Turan! The Turkish magician comes to Barcelona to raise the level of the team even further and to help us win more trophies. Would you like to have the jersey of our new superstar?

Well, it’s very easy. Try and guess the number that Arda will wear by selecting the number that you believe that he will be wearing in the list below.

Once you have made your selection, click on the button Participate and you will be entered into the draw for the jersey. Of course, only those who have correctly guessed the exact number that Arda will wear will be entered into the draw. Remember that you have to be a Barça Fan to be able to participate.

    * The participation period for this activity shall begin on 7 July 2015 and will end on 9 July 2015. The draw will be carried out in front of a notary in the two working days following the announcement of the official shirt number.

Atlético pay tribute to ball wizard Arda Turan

The Rojiblancos bid farewell to the Turkish midfielder, who spent four seasons at the Calderón, with a video compilation of his finest moments.

Arda Turan’s transfer to FC Barcelona has broken quite a few hearts at the Vicente Calderón. Atlético are sad to see him go but have decided to remember all of the magical moments in a video animation, featuring images taken during his four years at the club.

Arda Turan, the ball boy who saw Luis Enrique find the net.

The new blaugrana has particular memories of Barça's game against Galatasaray in the Ali Sami Yen stadium from March 2002

The blaugranes won 1-0 thanks to a solitary goal from Luis Enrique.

In Turkey they call him ‘koca kafa’ (bighead), affectionately of course. Arda Turan is a reference point for the Turkish fans and one the key figures in the current Turkey side. The man who is Barça’s latest signing has had football in his blood since he was a youngster and he has plenty of experience in the Champions League. His first contact with Europe’s premier club competition came when he featured as a ball boy at the Ali Sami Yen stadium, Galatasaray’s infamous ground, during his time in the youth teams at the club.

Arda and Barça’s paths crossed on 19 March 2002 when the Istanbul club and the blaugranes met in the group stage of that season’s Champions League. That night FC Barcelona won thanks to the only goal of the game scored by none other than Luis Enrique.

The current Barça coach made the most of a loose ball following a save by Mondragón to score in the 58th minute.

One of the ball boys for that game was a 15 year old Arda who after the game went off in search of a keepsake from the Barça players. The French defender Christanval gave him some gloves at the end of the game. The gloves still have a place in the Turan family home in the neighbourhood of Bayrampasa in Istanbul amongst memories of Arda’s time as a Galatasaray ball boy.

Barça and Turkey, a sporting, social and commercial relationship.

FC Barcelona and Turkey have strong links / FCB

The keeper Rustu and the basketball player Ilyasova are the only previous Turks at FC Barcelona

Commerical links with Turkey have been established thanks to agreement with Club sponsors Beko and Lassa Tyres

It has been 12 years since a Turkish player pulled on an FC Barcelona shirt. Arda Turan will be the second player from that country to tread the turf at Camp Nou for Barça after goalkeeper Rustu Reçber. Even though only two players have played for the blaugrana first team, Barça have a considerable presence in Turkey and a more than considerable following.

Rustu was signed in the summer of 2003 after having shined the previous summer in the Japan and South Korea World Cup in a Turkey side that finished the tournament in third place. Unfortunately, the goalkeeper’s spell at Camp Nou was a short one. He made his official debut in the Copa Catalunya during a 4-0 win over Girona.

However, a young Victor Valdés ousted him from the first team and Rustu left for Fenerbahçe at the end of the 2004/05 season. In his two full seasons as a blaugrana he made 23 appearances.

    Ilyasova at the Palau
Away from football, another Barça team has had a Turkish player in their squad. Ersan Ilyasova was signed in the summer of 2007 for a blaugrana team coached by Dusko Ivanovic. At just 20 years of age, the power forward arrived in Barcelona from NBA side Milwaukee Bucks. With the arrival of Xavi Pascual as coach in mid-season, Ilyaosva became a key part of the team, ending the campaign with an average of 6.9 points and 4.2 rebounds per game.

Commercial agreement with Beko and Lassa Tyres
The relationship between Barça and Turkey is extense and long established with Barça being one of the best supported teams in the country. In the commercial area, the Turkish white goods brand Beko is one of the Club’s global sponsors and the firm’s logo can be seen on the football team’s shirtsleeves for the next three seasons.

Furthermore, this season, the Club and Lassa Tyres have signed a global sponsorship agreement, with the company becoming the main sponsor of the professional sections and at the same time a official Club partner in the area of football for the next four years.

Turkey is one of the countries in the world with most Barça fans. If we look at social media we can see that the FC Barcelona official page on Facebook has 2.3m fans with Turkey seventh in the ranking. Istanbul boasts 534,000 Barça fans and is ninth on the list of cities with most blaugrana followers on Facebook. On the world’s biggest social network, Turkish is the seventh most used language.

Social media is an excellent way to bring the Club closer to its Turkish fans and now in Arda they will have a local figure to focus in the squad of the current European Champions.

Arda Turan's first day at the Camp Nou

After flying from Istanbul on Thursday afternoon, the Turk visits the Camp Nou and will be presented to the media early on Friday morning

The new FC Barcelona signing has made his first visit to the Camp Nou since being announced as a Barça player. Arda Turan flew from Istanbul to the Catalan capital on Thursday afternoon to sign his contract with his new club. His flight touched down shortly after 5.00pm CET, and he was transferred directly from the airport to the FCB offices for the traditional photo shoot in front of the club crest.

The midfielder said on arrival that "this is a great day for me … I am very happy … It is very important for my career and for my country that I have signed for FC Barcelona."

    Official presentation
The Turk will be officially presented on Friday morning. At 9:30am CET, he will put pen to paper, and will then give a media conference. After that, at around 11.30am CET, he will be appearing in his new shirt on the Camp Nou turf.

"I am very excited about my presentation tomorrow" he smiled. "I'm feeling absolutely perfect right now."
