So the truth is maybe things will be back up and running in time for DC United at Toronto on May 5th.
I have a feeling it's "bye-bye vBulletin." 1) Hopefully it'll be a few hours after the MUFC-MCFC match...but with the sport being a worldwide game, you're bound to interrupt some event. Still, for the sake of people wanting to discuss that epic match, hopefully such things are considered. 2) Will BSSC be compensated for the downtime? (I figured someone was going to ask.)
Great idea Huss. But do the forums really have to close on Monday? That's the day of the massive, likely title deciding, Manchester derby. I know my lads on the United forum will not be happy, at all.
Yep. I love vBulletin. I went online to BigCricket and I'm hoping it's some other software because that looked like what my 13 year old son has for his manga boards. Yuck. What about PMs and reps? Are our old ones going away? But, I have had a real problem with the slowness, so I'm glad we're going to something new. Time for a change.
While I certainly can't speak for the admins, here's what I'm guessing: 1) Weekends are the busiest time for matches, and probably the busiest time for the boards (at least they WERE the busiest times at one point.) 2) Who wants to work on a weekend, including the site admins who would most certainly have to monitor the transition?? 3) They're damned no matter WHEN they decide to make the switch. Wikipedia states over 150,000 registered users. Throwing out various sockpuppets and people who were banned, there's at least 60,000 ACTIVE users and I'm probably being conservative here. Someone's gonna throw a hissy fit no matter when the site goes offline. 4) Hopefully they'll wait until 1-2 hours after the match ends. They're not THAT naive.
Do you remember the April Fools prank from last year when they changed the boards? A little birdie told me that the new site looks somewhat like that. Apparently, a few beta testers have had a chance to play with the site...I'm not one of them, in case you're wondering. As for PM and reps, I would assume that those are staying, along with avatars and signatures. (I'd expect a few bugs and personal settings needing to be re-configured though.)
This is great. Even if it looks worse than what we currently have, the no lags makes up for it. That's if it looks worse. I'm optimistic.
This is the biggest game of the EPL season so far. I'm sure the EPL boards will see lots of traffic on Monday due to this game, not just United. Could this not have waited 3 weeks to follow the CL final? Not too sound like I'm whining here, but I do feel it's important for me to advocate for the many posters who frequent the EPL boards in general, especially the United board.
I'd just like to echo my fellow Manchester United fans requests. Could we please, please, please, please, pretty please with cherries on top stay open until a little while after the Manchester City vs. Manchester United match on Monday? I know we're only one team, or two if you count the other lot, but this is a huge game and hopefully Big Soccer would see some decent traffic during and immediately afterwards if it was to stay open until then. You've got two city rivals playing each other in what's being billed as the biggest ever match between the two clubs (it's certainly the biggest in my lifetime) both pushing for the title in one of the world's major leagues so late in the season. For what it's worth, the game will be done and dusted by 5pm eastern. If you could hold off until say, 6pm that would be brilliant. I realise that no time is a good time for this kind of thing and that you can't please everyone all of the time as was pointed out up above. There's no harm in asking though, right?
That is exactly what i was thinking. Must have been like 10k views on that request thread. Has to be the number one request.
I'm glad we're finally getting the upgrade because the slow load times and constant errors are a killer, but I have no idea what I'm going to do on Monday. I mean, I'm at work for 8 and a half hours, and I'll have nothing to do except actual work. I can't be expected to do that, and I'm all out of sick days. Mark your calendars: Monday, April 29, 2012 will be my most productive day in history.
We certainly applaud of our BS admin’s efforts to improve our software system and continually serving the customers’ (or members, whatever you want to call us) requests for faster and efficient system. Additionally, we recognize that changing to a new system is a massive undertaking, especially given that the staff had already set a schedule and have already announced to the general public about the upgrade. However, I, too, want to echo my fellow Manchester United supporters who have already posted on this thread about the timing of the upgrade. We know that Bigsoccer serves numerous, various clubs and country teams, but the game on Monday is very important to many members on this forum. We ask if the admin can either postpone or alter the timing of the upgrade. Perhaps as a compromise, if possible, to move forward with the upgrade on Sunday as planned, but leave a short window around KO time for fans all over the forum to discuss the game and pbp; there after the game, the admin can continue with the upgrade. Thank you in advance.
Just out of curiosity, how exactly does Big Soccer being down prevent one from watching a game? I know people may want to discuss it here, but the site maintenance is not a hindrance to actually watching a game.
